We classify the ODEs that correspond to elliptic CR-manifolds with maximal isotropy. It follows that the dimension of the isotropy group of an elliptic CR-manifold can be only 10 (for the quadric), 4 (for the listed examples) or less. This is in contrast with the situation of hyperbolic CR-manifolds, where the dimension can be 10 (for the quadric), 6 or 5 (for semi-quadrics) or less than 4. We ...

The response of CR-39 nuclear track detector (TasTrak(®)) to protons in the energy range of 0.92-9.28 MeV has been studied. Previous studies of the CR-39 response to protons have been extended by examining the piece-to-piece variability in addition to the effects of etch time and etchant temperature; it is shown that the shape of the CR-39 response curve to protons can vary from piece-to-piece....

A nitrogen-based analogue of the Schrock and Clark “yl-ene-yne” complex, W(CBu)(CHBu)(CH2Bu )(dmpe), has been prepared. The new complex is the nitrido, imido, amido anion [NCr(NPh)(NPr2)2] , which was structurally characterized with the [K(crypt-2.2.2)] counterion. The “Cr–N 1-2-3” complex was prepared from NCr(NHPh)(NPr2)2, which exists as this nitrido–amido tautomer, rather than the bis(imido...

A novel slightly distorted octahedral complex of Cr(III) of norfloxacin (Nor) with the formula [Cr(III)(Nor)(Bipy)Cl2]Cl·2CH3OH has been synthesized hydrothermally in the presence of a N-containing heterocyclic compound 2,2'-bipyridyl (Bipy). The complex was characterized with FT-IR, elemental analysis, UV-visible spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Spectral studies suggest that the Nor ac...

Hexavalent Chromium [Cr(VI)] compounds are human lung carcinogens and environmental/occupational hazards. The molecular mechanisms of Cr(VI) carcinogenesis appear to be complex and are poorly defined. In this study, we investigated the potential role of Gene 33 (ERRFI1, Mig6), a multifunctional adaptor protein, in Cr(VI)-mediated lung carcinogenesis. We show that the level of Gene 33 protein is...

Metal-superoxo species are believed to play key roles in oxygenation reactions by metalloenzymes. One example is cysteine dioxygenase (CDO) that catalyzes the oxidation of cysteine with O(2), and an iron(III)-superoxo species is proposed as an intermediate that effects the sulfoxidation reaction. We now report the first biomimetic example showing that a chromium(III)-superoxo complex bearing a ...

Low-molecular weight organic chromium complexes are thought to play a key role in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and therefore have been gaining popularity as nutritional supplement for patients with diabetes and concomitant lipid disorders. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of a novel synthetic chromium (d-phenylalanine)(3) complex on insulin-sensitivity, plasma lipid...

Cajal-Retzius (CR) cells are an enigmatic class of neurons located at the surface of the cerebral cortex, playing a major role in cortical development. In this review, we discuss several distinct features of these neurons and the mechanisms by which they regulate cortical development. Many CR cells likely have extracortical origin and undergo cell death during development. Recent genetic studie...
