PURPOSE To determine radiation doses from coronary computed tomographic (CT) angiography performed by using a 320-detector row volume scanner and evaluate how the effective dose depends on scan mode and the calculation method used. MATERIALS AND METHODS Radiation doses from coronary CT angiography performed by using a volume scanner were determined by using metal-oxide-semiconductor field-eff...

AIM OF THE STUDY Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET CT) scan is commonly used in current medical oncology practice as an imaging method. In this study we present data from cancer patients who were followed at our clinic and suspected of having tuberculosis during PET CT scanning. After the biopsy, they were diagnosed with concomitant tuberculosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS In th...

This study tests various acquisition and reconstruction protocols for MDCT of the wrist to determine the optimal views in wrist imaging. These views include: wrist in prone position, perpendicularly to CT gantry; wrist in prone position with internal and external deviation of the hand and PA wrist image reformatted in CT workstations along the axis of the scaphoid bone.Among these different vie...

Computed tomography (CT) scanning is very useful in identifying and evaluating the location, size, and suspected pathological diagnosis of lesions such as cysts, tumors, and infections. At the same time, it aids in the elucidation of bone and surrounding soft tissue invasion of lesions with high resolution.1, 2 In the maxilla and mandible, teeth are included and the CT capacity there can distin...

The reproducibility of patterns from brain activation experiments has been examined only for suprathreshold spatially localized foci. Scatter plots comparing signal levels across all pairs of Talairach voxels for pairs of functional activation images provide an alternative approach for assessing reproducibility. Image-wide, signal-level reproducibility may be quantitatively summarized using pat...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The lens of the eye is sensitive to radiation. Children undergoing CT of the head and patients undergoing repeated CT scanning of the head are vulnerable to this complication. The purpose of this study was to test the ability of a heavy metal, bismuth, in reducing radiation to the lens of the eye during routine cranial CT. METHODS Both phantom and human studies were don...

Dynamic sequential computed tomographic scanning with automatic table incrementation uses low milliampere-second technique to eliminate tube cooling delays between scanning slices and, thus, markedly shortens examination times. A total of 25 patients with spinal column trauma involving 28 levels were studied with dynamic scans and retrospectively reviewed. Dynamic studies were considerably fast...

Head injury is one of the most prevalent events accounting for about one million of emergency visits in US and UK annually. It occurs in over the 50% of traumatic patients and is the leading cause of death and disabilities in children and younger adults all over the world (Holmes, et al., 2006; Kraus & Nourjah, 1998; Langlois, et al., 2006). Annually, traumatic brain injuries cause 435000 emerg...

Because of the interest in reducing the time and radiation required for screening sinuses with CT, we compared the quality of conventional coronal CT images with coronally reconstructed, axially acquired spiral CT images. The spiral reconstructions compared favorably with the conventional images and had significantly less motion and dental amalgam artifacts.
