The wide range of applications of thermal imaging devices existing in military, industrial and space fields attract researchers to study pyroelectric materials which exhibit a temperature-dependent spontaneous polarisation. A brief review of pyroelectricity, pyroelectric materials and some commercial applications of these materials we will be given in this paper.

The composition of soil, particularly its organic matter content, reflects its role as a major controller of ecosystem functioning and soil fertility (Paul and Collins 1998, Basso et al. 2011, Bhardwaj et al. 2011). Soil organic matter (SOM), the largest global reservoir of terrestrial organic carbon (C), contains three to four times as much stored C as either the atmosphere or plant biomass. T...

Arthropod development can be used to determine the time of colonization of human remains to infer a minimum postmortem interval. The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens L. (Diptera. Stratiomyidae) is native to North America and is unique in that its larvae can consume a wide range of decomposing organic material, including carrion. Larvae development was observed on six resources: control poul...

The distribution of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus and bioassay experiments both show that nitrogen is the critical limiting factor to algal growth and eutrophication in coastal marine waters. About twice the amount of phosphate as can be used by the algae is normally present. This surplus results from the low nitrogen to phosphorus ratio in terrigenous contributions, including human waste, ...

Microbiological breakdowin of cellulose materials in soil as influenced by the soil environment is of interest to both agriculture and industry. The need for better understanding of possible effects due to variations in soil used as a component of soil burial beds led to investigations on the cellulolytic activities of diverse mineral soils. An accompanying paper (Schmidt and Ruschmeyer, 1958) ...

Global warming accelerates decomposition of soil organic carbon (SOC) pools with varying rates and temperature sensitivities. Black carbon (BC) materials are among the slowest decomposing components of the SOC pool. Although BC is a large component of SOC in many systems, the influence of temperature on decomposition of BC bearing different chemical and physical structures remains poorly unders...
