We propose a new optical Local Area Network (LAN) that exhibits high total capacity and enables the connection of a great number of nodes. It is based on the combined advantages of coherent techniques and Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM). The network topology is a passive star with a shared local oscillator that allows simple emission and detection schemes.

A dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) is designed to have its zero dispersion wavelength in 1.55μm wavelength range. Since the dispersion of DSF is close to zero in the C-band, conditions for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission using DSF are limited due to four wave mixing (FWM). In the L-band, however, the DSF has some dispersion values, so that the DWDM transmission using DS...

This article deals with the possibility of employing phase sensitive OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) into fibers with active data transmission DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex). Due to the low backscattered signal of phase sensitive OTDR is required to generate pulses with a high intensity and short time duration. These high power pulses can cause degradation of the data trans...

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is the system with more than eight active wavelengths per fiber. Again high data rates as well as long spans between amplifiers in a chain require high optical power per channel to satisfy the signal to noise ratio (SNR) requirements. So the DWDM systems with long repeater-less spans, the simultaneous requirements of high launched power and low disp...

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is an effective technique to make use of the large amount of bandwidth in optical fibers to meet the broadband requirement of multimedia applications. The routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) algorithm efficiently manages optical network resources and is separated from the optical topology. This paper proposes a dynamic LLR algorithm using fuzzy ...
