The decay of metastable patterns in the form of magnetic liquid ridges is studied in the frame of a linear stability analysis where the ridges are the most unstable linear pattern of the Rosensweig instability. The analysis of the corresponding dispersion relation reveals that different sets of solutions exist. Two of them are associated with an oscillatory and a pure exponential decay, respect...

A new nonlinear equation governing asymptotic dynamics of ripples is derived by using a short wave perturbative expansion on a generalized version of the Green-Naghdi system. It admits peakon solutions with amplitude, velocity and width in interrelation and static compacton solutions with amplitude and width in interrelation. Short wave pattern formation is shown to result from a balance betwee...

Hippocampal sclerosis (HS) is the most common pathological substrate for temporal lobe epilepsy with a characteristic pattern of loss of principle neurons primarily in CA1 and hilar subfields. Other cytoarchitectural abnormalities have been identified in human HS specimens, including dispersion of dentate granule cells and cytoskeletal abnormalities in residual hilar cells. The incidence of the...

A new rough-fuzzy model for pattern classification based on granular computing is described in the present article. In this model, we propose the formulation of class-dependent granules in fuzzy environment. Fuzzy membership functions are used to represent the feature-wise belonging to different classes, thereby producing fuzzy granulation of the feature space. The fuzzy granules thus generated...

Odour emissions are episodic, characterised by periods of high emission rates, interspersed with periods of low emissions. It is frequently the short term, high concentration peaks that result in annoyance in the surrounding population. Dispersion modelling is accepted as a useful tool for odour impact assessment, and two approaches can be adopted. The first approach of modelling the hourly ave...

A derivation of the Dirac equation in ‘3 + 1’ dimensions is presented based on a master equation approach originally developed for the ‘1+ 1’ problem by McKeon and Ord. The method of derivation presented here suggests a mechanism by which the work of Knuth and Bahrenyi on causal sets may be extended to a derivation of the Dirac equation in the context of an inference problem.

Measurements in atmospheric science sometimes determine universal functions, but more commonly data are collected in the form of case studies. Models are conceptual constructs that can be used to make predictions about the outcomes of measurements. Hypotheses can be expressed in terms of model results, and the best use of measurements is to falsify such hypotheses. Tuning of models should be av...

In the present work, liquid flow pattern in a Tubular Electrochemical Reactor (TC-ECR) with concentric cylindrical expanded meshes as electrodes and inlet/outlet distributors of shower‑sprinkler type was evaluated. It found that CFD theoretical results describe experimental F(t)-curves obtained methodology “step-signal input”. Later, estimated for each reactor zone were adequately approximated ...
