We construct indecomposable and noncrossed product division algebras over function fields of smooth curves X over Zp. This is done by defining an index preserving morphism s : Br(K̂(X)) → Br(K(X)) which splits res : Br(K(X)) → Br(K̂(X)), where K̂(X) is the completion of K(X) at the special fiber, and using it to lift indecomposable and noncrossed product division algebras over K̂(X).

We generalize the classical Cayley-Dickson doubling process starting with a quaternion algebra over a field F by allowing the scalar in the doubling to be an invertible element in the algebra. We investigate the resulting eight-dimensional algebras over F and show that they are division algebras for all scalars chosen in D outside of the base field F , if D is a division algebra.

Left distributive left quasigroups are binary algebras with unique left division satisfying the left distributive identity x(yz) ≈ (xy)(xz). In other words, binary algebras where all left translations are automorphisms. We provide a description and examples of non-idempotent subdirectly irreducible algebras in this class.

A simple sufficient condition for certain cyclic algebras of odd degree d to be split is presented. It employs certain binary forms of degree d and the values they represent. A similar sufficient condition for certain Albert algebras not to be division algebras is found as well.
