Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test using venous blood sample has been used for many years in low resource settings for early infant diagnosis of HIV infection in children less than 18 months. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the performance characteristics of Amplicor HIV-1 DNA assay version 1.5 following processing of venous blood and d...
Advances in materials science, chemistry, and self-assembly are anticipated to enable the fabrication of massively parallel computer systems. An important aspect of this development is the design and evaluation of system-level interactions and performance based on the fundamental properties of emerging nanoscale devices on real computer applications. This paper will present the design, evaluati...
The development of top-down nanofabrication techniques has opened many possibilities for the design and realization of complex devices based on single molecule phenomena such as e.g. single molecule electronic devices. These impressive achievements have been complemented by the fundamental understanding of self-assembly phenomena, leading to bottom-up strategies to obtain hybrid nanomaterials t...
The recent discovery of meso-cluster phase includes not only colloidal molecules of synthetic polymer particles but also equilibrium protein clusters. Here we report self-assembly of histone protein into stable submicron clusters that can be generated even in centrifuged supernatants containing no initial aggregates. Furthermore, dark-field microscopy of the electrophoresis has verified charge ...
The self-assembly of a DNA-analogue hexameric rosette from triaminopyrimidine and cyanuric acid-based nucleosides, and its subsequent aggregation into rod-like morphologies is reported.
We show that DNA-based self-assembly can serve as a general and flexible tool to construct artificial flagella of several micrometers in length and only tens of nanometers in diameter. By attaching the DNA flagella to biocompatible magnetic microparticles, we provide a proof of concept demonstration of hybrid structures that, when rotated in an external magnetic field, propel by means of a flag...

DNA nanotechnology has emerged as a reliable and programmable way of controlling matter at the nanoscale through the specificity of Watson-Crick base pairing, allowing both complex self-assembled structures with nanometer precision and complex reaction networks implementing digital and analog behaviors. Here we show how two well-developed frameworks, DNA tile self-assembly and DNA strand-displa...
We demonstrate the precise control of periodic spacing between individual protein molecules by programming the self-assembly of DNA tile templates. In particular, we report the application of two self-assembled periodic DNA structures, two-dimensional nanogrids, and one-dimensional nanotrack, as template for programmable self-assembly of streptavidin protein arrays with controlled density.
