introduction: sonophoresis has been assessed as a novel approach to create skin permeability and drug delivery using low frequencies of ultrasound waves in the range of 20 khz to 3 mhz. in this study, a system including seven 40 khz piezoelectric transducers and an insulin chamber designed by the medical physics research center has been evaluated on hyperglycemic rabbits. materials and methods:...
In A State is a live performance system that detects emotion from live audio (in this case a piano performance) and generates visuals and electroacoustic music in response. This paper discusses the continuing development of the system and the backdrop of emotion in music and arts practice.
In this study we model the sound attenuation properties of a hearing aid earmold tube. The model includes thermoviscous acoustic effects and it couples structural vibrations to the external acoustic field. Moreover, the finite element domain is coupled at two boundaries with an electroacoustic model of a hearing aid and an acoustic 2-cc coupler.
Within electroacoustic music much attention has been paid to issues of dualism and categorisation. Two prominent examples of dualistic categorisation being: Simon Emmerson’s creation of a language grid (1986) and Denis Smalley’s spectromorphology (1986), with particular reference to its emphasis on gesture/texture. These discussions are a product of the view that the conventional notation and c...
At last year’s EMS in Lisbon we introduced the TaCEM project (Technology and Creativity in Electroacoustic Music), a 30-month project funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council, and demonstrated the generic TIAALS software being produced as part of this project. This year we present an update on the project, focusing particularly on the first of our case studies, Barry Truax’s Rive...
abstract introduction: nowadays, the advanced technology of designing electronic circuits in very small size and with very low power consumption has led to development of wearable and implantable medical devices. however, the electronic circuits need power supply that is usually provided by relatively large and heavy batteries. the discharged batteries have to replaced or recharged for long tim...
This paper introduces my research in physical interactive design with my “GRIP MAESTRO” electroacoustic performance interface. It then discusses the considerations involved in creating intuitive software mappings of emotive performative gestures such that they are idiomatic not only of the sounds they create but also of the physical nature of the interface itself.
