Carbon dioxide corrosion has been widely studied in the field and laboratory. It is recognized that flow regime and metallurgy are important factors that influence in-situ corrosion rates but there are relatively few documented case studies that are able to separate the individual contributions of corrosion, flow regime and metallurgy on the observed corrosion damage. This paper deals with fail...

The roles of the alloying elements Mo, Cr, and W in resisting crevice corrosion of UNS N06022, UNS N06625, and UNS N10362 have been studied under galvanostatic conditions in 5 mol/L NaCl at 150°C. Corrosion damage patterns were investigated using surface analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and optical imaging, and the corrosion products characterized by energy dispersive ...

Epoxy coated reinforcement (ECR) has been used in Florida from the 1970s to 1990s but has been discontinued due to the observation of severe corrosion in some ECR bridges after short service times. Corrosion projections have been made in earlier investigations based on corrosion initiation and propagation concepts but did not consider the presence of structural cracks. The current research in p...

The present study is an attempt to find out the effect of environmental corrosion on the commonly used pearlitic rail steel. The cases of corrosion of rail under Indian environment have been studied. It has been found that in marine environment both the yield strength and tensile strength decreases with increasing corrosion rate. In acidic environment yield strength increased with increasing co...

The magnetic properties of metal-functionalized graphitic carbon nitride nanotubes were investigated based on first-principles calculations. The graphitic carbon nitride nanotube can be either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic by functionalizing with different metal atoms. The W- and Ti-functionalized nanotubes are ferromagnetic, which are attributed to carrier-mediated interactions because of...

A characterization of the graphitic overlayer that forms on 4H–SiCð000 1Þ substrates heated for ten minutes to temperatures T > 1350 C under vacuum conditions has been performed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the C-face reveals the presence of graphitic carbon with a thickness that increases with growth temperature. Parallel atomic force microscope (AFM) studies find a mesh-like network o...

Concrete corrosion is one of the most significant problems affecting valuable sewer infrastructure on a global scale. This problem occurs in the aerobic zone of the sewer, where a layer of surface corrosion develops on the exposed concrete and the surface pH is typically lowered from around 11-10 (pristine concrete) to pH 2-4. Acidophilic microorganisms become established as biofilms within the...

Potentiodynamic Pt/C fuel cell catalyst corrosion has been studied as a function of chloride concentration with an electrochemical flow cell (EFC) coupled with highly sensitive ICP-MS. The Pt corrosion mechanism changes significantly: the anodic corrosion is much enhanced compared to the cathodic corrosion that prevails in electrolytes without Cl(-).

In this research, a new type of corrosion monitoring technique for reinforce concrete was developed. The technique used piezoelectric sensors to detect the ultrasonic signals during corrosion. The mechanism of the method was presented. Experiment was carried out to monitor the corrosion process using piezoelectric sensors. The corrosion was also monitored using stain gauge for comparison.

The effect of recasting, up to two times, Ni-Cr (DUCINOX) prosthetic alloy on its corrosion properties was carried out. The corrosion measurements were done in deoxygenated Fusayama Meyer artificial saliva solution at temperature of 37°C. In the study following electrochemical methods were used: measurement of free corrosion potential Ecor in open circuit, measurement of polarization resistance...
