We prove that a k-dimensional hereditarily indecomposable metrisable continuum is not a Pk-valued absolute retract. We deduce from this that none of the classical characterizations of ANR (metric) extends to the class of stratifiable spaces.

A cardinal λ is called ω-inaccessible if for all μ < λ we have μ < λ. We show that for every ω-inaccessible cardinal λ there is a CCC (hence cardinality and cofinality preserving) forcing that adds a hereditarily Lindelöf regular space of density λ. This extends an analogous earlier result of ours that only worked for regular λ. In [1] we have shown that for any cardinal λ a natural CCC forcing...

In this paper, we introduce the cone normed spaces and cone bounded linear mappings. Among other things, we prove the Baire category theorem and the Banach--Steinhaus theorem in cone normed spaces.

A mapping $f:V^n longrightarrow W$, where $V$ is a commutative semigroup, $W$ is a linear space and $n$ is a positive integer, is called multi-additive if it is additive in each variable. In this paper we prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of multi-additive mappings in 2-Banach spaces. The corollaries from our main results correct some outcomes from [W.-G. Park, Approximate additive mappings i...

In this paper, we prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the generalized radical cubic functional equation[    fleft( sqrt[3]{ax^3 + by^3}right)=af(x) + bf(y),]    where $a,b in mathbb{R}_+$ are fixed positive real numbers, by using direct method in quasi-$beta$-Banach spaces. Moreover, we use subadditive functions to investigate stability of the generaliz...

We study certain Banach spaces that are added in the extension by one Cohen real. Specifically, we show that adding just one Cohen real to any model adds a Banach space of density א1 which does not embed into any such space in the ground model (Theorem 1.1). Moreover, such a Banach space can be chosen to be UG (Theorem 1.6). This has consequences on the the isomorphic universality number for Ba...

In this paper, we study Dirichlet operators on certain smooth Banach spaces. We establish the well-known Kato's inequality in our general infinite dimensional setting. By applying this,we show the essential self-adjointness of Dirichlet operators with non-constant diffusion part on certain smooth Banach spaces. We also provide an approximation criterion for essential self-adjointness of Dirichl...

In the theory of generalized metric spaces, the notion of knetworks has played an important role. Every locally separable metric space or CW-complex, more generally, every space dominated by locally separable metric spaces has a star-countable k-network. Every LaSnev space, as well as, every space dominated by LaSnev spaces has a a-compact-finite knetwork. We recall that every space has a compa...
