Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of both hemopoietic and nonhemopoietic cells that mediates, in part, the emigration of leukocytes out of the vasculature. Expression of ICAM-1 on the surface of human umbilical vein endothelial cells and a human lung carcinoma cell line (A549) was increased by interleukin-1 beta, tumor necrosis factor alpha, a...

Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), part of an immunoglobulin-like superfamily of adhesion molecules, is involved in several cardiovascular diseases. We investigated whether in vivo angiotensin II (Ang II) increases ICAM-1 in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were infused with vehicle or Ang II (750 mg z kg z d SC) for 7 days. The contribution of Ang II receptors to ICAM-1 expression was invest...

Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on activated endothelium and many other cells, represents a suitable target for delivery of drug nanocarriers (NCs) to disease areas. Numerous works have shown efficient targeting and intracellular transport of ICAM-1-targeted NCs, rendering significant therapeutic potential. This is the case for enzyme delivery ...

conclusions in summary, progesterone administration reduced serum icam-1, and whereby may attenuate blood brain barrier disruption, the latter needs further investigation for confirmation. results a reduction in the serum level of icam-1 was noticed in the progesterone group 24 hours after the injury (p < 0.05). there was no significant difference in the serum level of nse between the study gro...

Inflammatory cell recruitment contributes to respiratory impairment during Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. We evaluated expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), a key participant in leukocyte accumulation, in rats with P. carinii pneumonia. Immunostaining for ICAM-1 was most marked on bronchiolar epithelium but was also evident on type II pneumocytes, endothelium, and macrophag...

Ovarian cancer is a difficult-to-treat cancer with a 5-year survival rate of only ∼45%, due to late diagnosis and therapy resistance. In need of new therapeutic approaches, induction of intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 expression might be of interest, since the expression of ICAM-1 is lower in ovarian cancer cells compared with healthy ovarian cells and correlated with decreased tumorig...

Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) is an endothelial cell adhesion molecule implicated in cerebral malaria. We investigated whether fibrinogen affects Plasmodium falciparum binding to ICAM-1, as the ICAM-1 binding sites of P. falciparum and fibrinogen overlap. We show that fibrinogen dramatically reduces P. falciparum adhesion to ICAM-1 under flow conditions.

OBJECTIVES Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), a 80-110 kD glycoprotein, has been found to be a ligand for the lymphocyte function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) molecule and has important roles in inflammatory and immune mediated mechanisms. ICAM-1 is expressed on thyroid follicular cells of patients with Hashimoto disease and cultured thyroid monolayer cells derived from the thyroid sur...

Aberrant cholangiocyte reactions in response to inflammatory stimuli are important pathogenic factors for the persistent biliary inflammation in patients with cholangiopathies. Overexpression of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in cholangiocytes is a common pathological feature in inflammatory cholangiopathies and can promote cholangiocyte interactions with effector lymphocytes i...
