BACKGROUND Adhesins of pathogens recognise the glycans on the host cell and mediate adherence. They are also crucial for determining the tissue preferences of pathogens. Currently, glyco-nanomaterials provide potential tool for antimicrobial therapy. We demonstrate that properly glyco-tailored inclusion bodies can specifically bind pathogen adhesins and release therapeutic substances. RESULTS...

Cytoplasmic inclusion bodies, similar to those previously described in abnormal and normal human extraocular muscle, were observed in the orbital surface layer of the superior rectus muscle in rabbit. These inclusion bodies are composed of a flocculent material of low density studded with granular foci of increased density. In sequential samples of serially reconstructed muscle fibers visualize...

We present a simple example of toughening mechanism in the homogenization of composites with soft inclusions, produced by crack deflection at microscopic level. We show that the mechanism is connected to the irreversibility of the crack process. Because of that it cannot be detected through the standard homogenization tool of the Γ-convergence.

The distribution of inclusion-rich domains in membranes with active two-state inclusions is studied by simulations. Our study shows that typical size of inclusion-rich domains (L) can be controlled by inclusion activities in several ways. When there is effective attraction between state-1 inclusions, we find: (i) Small domains with only several inclusions are observed for inclusions with time s...

In this article we prove the substantiation of the method of averaging for the fuzzy integrodifferential inclusions with small parameter. Thereby we expand a circle of systems to which it is possible to apply Krylov-Bogolyubov method of averaging.

The activity of the ubiquitin-proteasome system, UPS, declines during aging in several multicellular organisms. The reason behind this decline remains elusive. Here, using yeast as a model system, we show that while the level and potential capacity of the 26S proteasome is maintained in replicatively aged cells, the UPS is not functioning properlyin vivo. As a consequence cytosolic UPS substrat...

Tannaka reconstruction provides a close link between monoidal categories and (quasi-)Hopf algebras. We discuss some applications of the ideas of Tannaka reconstruction to the theory of Hopf algebra extensions, based on the following construction: For certain inclusions of a Hopf algebra into a coquasibialgebra one can consider a natural monoidal category consisting of Hopf modules, and one can ...
