One of the major issues in the analysis of unemployment durations concerns the distinction between duration dependence of the exit rate out of unemployment and unobserved heterogeneity. Empirical studies rely heavily on functional form restrictions, which may be hazardous. We present a method for the nonparametric estimation of both phenomena. This method is designed to be applicable to aggrega...

In this paper we study the description of saturation in Balitsky, Jalilian-Marian, Iancu, McLerran, Weigert, Leonidov and Kovner (BJIMWLK) picture when restricted to observables made up only from dipole operators. We derive a functional form of the evolution equation for the dipole probability distribution and find a one-parameter family of exact solutions to the dipole evolution equations.

We say a countable model A has a 0-basis if the types realized in A are uniformly computable. We say A has a (d-)decidable copy if there exists a model B ∼= A such that the elementary diagram of B is (d-)computable. Goncharov, Millar, and Peretyat’kin independently showed there exists a homogeneous model A with a 0-basis but no decidable copy. We extend this result here. Let d ≤ 0′ be any low2 ...

PURPOSE To report the time course of changes in corneal wavefront aberrations in a patient with pellucid marginal degeneration. CASE A 59-year-old man with pellucid marginal degeneration was followed-up annually with slit-lamp microscopy and videokeratography for 11 years. The anterior corneal height data of the videokeratography were expanded into the set of orthogonal Zernike polynomials to...

PURPOSE The visual performance of pseudophakic eyes depends on the type of intraocular lenses (IOLs) that are implanted. Aspherical and multifocal IOLs have recently been developed to improve visual quality after cataract surgery, but multifocal IOLs can be associated with decreased contrast sensitivity (CS), halos, and glare. This study compares the visual performance of monofocal and multifoc...

PURPOSE To compare refractive outcomes and higher order aberrations of eyes that underwent LASIK for myopia with astigmatism with or without active cyclotorsion error correction. METHODS This was a contralateral eye study of 48 eyes of 24 patients who underwent LASIK using the NIDEK Advanced Vision Excimer laser platform (NAVEX), treating one eye with active cyclotorsion error correction (TEC...

We use adaptive optics (AO) to study whether neural adaptation influences the amount of higher order aberration correction that produces the best subjective image quality. Three subjects performed two tasks, method of adjustment and matching, while viewing a monochromatic stimulus through the Rochester AO system. In both tasks, after correcting the subject's lower order aberrations with trial l...

PURPOSE To compare the mean change in aberrations produced by a mechanical microkeratome and femtosecond laser. METHODS This was a retrospective study of 62 consecutive near emmetropic eyes that underwent LASIK and satisfied the following criteria: negligible laser ablation (for spherical equivalent of 0.00 to +0.50 diopters and maximum meridian of +0.50 diopters), and preoperative and at lea...

This paper uses the marginal treatment effect (MTE) to unify the nonparametric literature on treatment effects with the econometric literature on structural estimation using a nonparametric analog of a policy invariant parameter; to generate a variety of treatment effects from a common semiparametric functional form; to organize the literature on alternative estimators; and to explore what poli...
