Inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy is a powerful spectroscopy that allows one to investigate the nature of local excitations and energy transfer in the system of interest. We study inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy for topological insulators and investigate the role of inelastic scattering on the Dirac node states on the surface of topological insulators. Local inelastic scatteri...
Typically, beams that form part of structural systems are subjected to vertical distributed loading along their length. Distributed loading affects moment and shear distribution, and consequently spread of inelasticity, along the beam length. However, the finite element models developed so far for seismic analysis of frame structures either ignore the effect of vertical distributed loading on s...
Electron scattering is always applied as one of the routines to investigate nanostructures. Nowadays the development of hardware offers more and more prospect for this technique. For example imaging nanostructures with inelastic scattered electrons may allow to produce component-sensitive images with atomic resolution. Modelling inelastic electron scattering is therefore essential for interpret...
Nacre (mother-of-pearl) from mollusc shells is a biologically formed lamellar ceramic. The inelastic deformation of this material has been experimentally examined, with a focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms. Slip along the lamellae tablet interface has been ascertained by testing in compression with the boundaries oriented at 45° to the loading axis. The steady-state shear resistan...
Inelastic collapse of stochastic trajectories of a randomly accelerated particle moving in half-space z>0 has been discovered by McKean [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 2, 227 (1963)] and then independently rediscovered by Cornell et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 1142 (1998)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.81.1142]. The essence of this phenomenon is that the particle arrives at the wall at z=0 with zero vel...
Gribov's inelastic shadowing makes nuclei more transparent and reduce nuclear cross sections, especially when QCD dynamics (color transparency) is at work. This effect steeply rising with energy has an important impact on the recent results for high-p T hadron production at RHIC. Only the shape of p T-dependence of the d − Au to pp ratio was measured, but the absolute value was calculated. Thos...
The role of inelastic final-state interactions in CP asymmetries and branching ratios is investigated in certain chosen single isospin two-body hadronic B decays. Treating final-state interactions through Pomeron and Regge exchanges, we demonstrate that inelastic final state interactions could lead to sizeable effects on the CP asymmetry. On the basis of the target mass corrections to structure functions of deep-inelastic scattering of leptons, we evaluate effective nucleon mass that turns out to be twice M nucl. for deep-inelastic scattering on the nucleus target and equals M nucl. for the hydrogen target.
The Energy Recovery LINAC (ERL) being developed at Cornell should be an excellent source for Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS) because it will permit long undulators to operate at high efficiency generating unprecedented spectral flux (photons/second/meV) and brilliance. We discuss several advantages of the ERL for inelastic x-ray scattering. Presented at 5 th International Conference on Inelast...
