Inguinal hernia is a well-known entity that usually affects males. The most common herniated organs are parts of the bowel, omentum, or fat. Urinary bladder herniation into the inguinal region is very rare and is often diagnosed during inguinal hernia surgery. This case highlights the importance of additional views and anatomic imaging to accurately interpret the unusual scan findings.
Spindle cell lipoma is a rare lipoma, originates from subcutaneous tissue and mostly seen at back region. In this case report we represent a case with inguinal mass misdiagnosed as inguinal hernia and then diagnosed as spindle cell lipoma. There are two cases in literature with spindle cell lipoma originating from spermatic cord. This case is unique as having both pheochromacytoma and inguinal ...
BACKGROUND AND AIM It has been reported that femoral hernias are rather common after a previous repair of inguinal hernia. We herein present a modified patch repair technique for large femoral hernias that develop after a Lichtenstein operation for ipsilateral inguinal hernia. PATIENTS AND METHODS The modified technique for femoral hernia was applied to three patients who had a Lichtenstein r...
BACKGROUND Anterior open treatment of the inguinal hernia with a tension-free mesh has reduced the incidence of hernia recurrence. The Lichtenstein procedure is the current reference technique for inguinal hernia treatment. Chronic pain has become the main postoperative complication after surgical inguinal hernia repair, especially following Lichtenstein. Preliminary experiences with a soft mes...
Introduction: Inguinal hernia is one of the most common problems of mankind. Since the period of Hippocrates (4th century BC), the disease has been known and various palliative treatment methods were adopted. Historically the development of hernia surgery is one of the most interesting chapters in the field of surgery since hernias have always been the most common applications of man amenable t...
INTRODUCTION An Amyand's hernia is a heterogeneous clinical condition defined by the presence of the vermiform appendix within an inguinal hernia sac, which may or may not contain other abdominal contents or pathologic inflammatory changes. Herein we present an exceptionally rare case of an Amyand's hernia containing acute appendicitis and a perforated cecum. PRESENTATION OF CASE A 46-year-ol...
Inguinal hernias may contain the small or large bowel. About 10% of inguinal hernias become incarcerated, causing strangulation, bowel obstruction or infarction. Malignant lesions in groin hernias are rare; most intrasaccular neoplasms are colonic, and the most common reported site is the sigmoid colon, usually in a left inguinal hernia. We report a case of an incarcerated inguinal hernia conta...
The anatomical localization of Inguinal region is important especially to pediatric surgeons and General Surgeons. A thorough understanding of groin anatomy is essential to successful inguinal hernia treatment. Conservative management of asymptomatic inguinal hernias is usually acceptable and Elective repair of inguinal hernias can be undertaken using a laparoscopic or open approach .Laparoscop...
Background: Hernias constitute an important public health problem and often pose a surgical dilemma even for the most skilled surgeons. They are a leading cause of work loss and disability and are sometimes lethal. An early diagnosis and referral to the surgeon should mean short waiting time, elective surgery and a better prognosis. Objectives: 1) To know the incidence of inguinal encountered i...
Herniorrhaphy, which is the surgical repair of a hernia, is one of the commonest procedures performed by general surgeons, with over 40,000 hernia operations performed annually in Australia. Approximately 75 percent of abdominal hernias are inguinal and these may contain omentum, bowel and rarely the appendix. The presence of the vermiform appendix, whether inflamed or not, inside the hernia sa...
