Fluid dynamics applications require a good understanding of the underlying physical phenomena. Therefore, effective procedures are necessary for analyzing and visualizing the various physical fields. Beside interactive and perceptually efficient techniques for visualizing flow fields directly, there is strong demand for methods that uncover hidden flow structures. Some recently developed featur...
Interactivity, coherence and diversity of the stories are key issues for the development of interactive storytelling systems. When stories are to be told via interactive TV, special interaction methods are also necessary in order to cope with high responsiveness requirements. In this paper, we describe the extension of the interactive storytelling system Logtell we have developed to run in an i...
We describe a network software architecture for solving the problem of scaling very large distributed simulations. The fundamental idea is to logically partition virtual environments by associating spatial, temporal, and functionally related entity classes with network multicast groups. We exploit the actual characteristics of the real-world large-scale environments that are simulated by focusi...
Visualizations have grown to a de-facto standard as means for decisionmaking in the management discipline of enterprise architecture (EA). Thereby, those visualizations are often created manually, so that they get soon outdated since underlying data change on a frequent basis. As a consequence, EA management tools require mechanisms to generate visualizations. In this vein, a major challenge is...
Interactive 3D visualization and Internet-based access to information are already common. Their combination is—or will soon be—the primary vehicle for accessing remote databases in fundamental areas of manufacturing, architecture, petroleum, urban planning, tourism, defense, medicine, electronic commerce, and entertainment. Unfortunately, whether based on precise 3D geometry or involving combin...
Multi-party interactive network applications such as teleconferencing, network gaming and online trading are gaining popularity. In addition to end-to-end latency bounds, these applications require that the perceived delay difference among multiple users of the service is minimized. We propose a Latency EQualization (LEQ) service for interactive network applications, which equalizes the perceiv...
Interactive cognitive modelling agents are defined here as diagnostic agents that involve human learners in diagnostic dialogues and extract a picture of the learner's cognition in terms of beliefs, misunderstandings, misconceptions, and reasoning. This paper is written both as a reflection on our recent work on interactive open learner modelling, which is a specific and fairly simplified inter...
Context-aware systems adapt their behaviour based on the context a user is in. Since context is potentially privacy sensitive information, users should be empowered to control how much of their context they are willing to share, under what conditions and for what purpose. We propose an interactive consent mechanism that allows this. It is interactive in the sense that users are asked for consen...
In this paper we introduce the notion of character’s values to mediate between agents and story direction in storytelling systems. By relating characters’ goals with their values, the activation of goals depends on the values that are put at stake by the story incidents. Based on this framework, we propose a reference architecture for value–based interactive storytelling.
