0 Introduction In this paper, we give an algorithm to compute the following cohomology groups on U = C n n V (f) for any non-zero polynomial f 2 Qx 1 ; : : : ; x n ]: 1. H k (U; C U), where C U is the constant sheaf on U with stalk C. 2. H k (U; V), where V is the locally constant sheaf on U of rank one deened by a multi-valued function f a 1 1 f a d d with polynomials f 1 ; : : : ; f d 2 Qx] s...
Starting from the chip-firing game of Björner and Lovász we consider a generalization to vector addition systems that still admit algebraic structures as sandpile group or sandpile monoid. Every such vector addition language yields an antimatroid. We show that conversely every antimatroid can be represented this way. The inclusion order on the feasible sets of an antimatroid is an upper locally...
We show that any non-Kähler, almost Kähler 4-manifold for which both the Ricci and the Weyl curvatures have the same algebraic symmetries as they have for a Kähler metric is locally isometric to the (only) proper 3-symmetric four-dimensional space. It is a classical result, due to F. Tricceri, that the blow-up of a manifold of locally conformally Kähler (l.c.K. for short) type at some point is again of l.c.K. type. However, the proof given in [5] is somehow unclear. We give a different argument to prove the result, using ”standard tricks” in algebraic geometry.
A famous theorem of Harish-Chandra asserts that all invariant eigendistributions on a semisimple Lie group are locally integrable functions. We show that this result and its extension to symmetric pairs are consequences of an algebraic property of a holonomic D-module defined by Hotta and Kashiwara.
Lazard showed in his seminal work [L] that for rational coefficients continuous group cohomology of p-adic Lie-groups is isomorphic to Lie-algebra cohomology. We refine this result in two directions: firstly we extend his isomorphism under certain conditions to integral coefficients and secondly, we show that for algebraic groups, his isomorphism can be realized by differentiating locally analy...
We propose in this paper a constructive procedure that transforms locally, even at singular configurations, the kinematics of a car towing trailers into Kumpera-Ruiz normal form. This construction converts the nonholonomic motion planning problem into an algebraic problem (the resolution of a system of polynomial equations), which we illustrate by steering the two-trailer system in a neighborho...
A locally compact group G is compact if and only if L(G) is an ideal in L(G). On the other hand, the Fourier algebra A(G) of G is an ideal in A(G)∗∗ if and only if G is discrete. We show that both results are special cases of one general theorem on locally compact quantum groups in the sense of J. Kustermans and S. Vaes: a von Neumann algebraic quantum group (M,Γ) is compact if and only if M∗ i...
This text is based on my lectures delivered at the School on Algebraic K-Theory and Applications which took place at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste during the last two weeks of May of 2007. It might be regarded as an introduction to some basic facts of noncommutative algebraic geometry and the related chapters of homological algebra and (as a part of it) a no...
