In this paper we study the concept of ph-biatness ofa Banach algebra A, where ph is a continuous homomorphism on A.We prove that if ph is a continuous epimorphism on A and A hasa bounded approximate identity and A is ph- biat, then A is ph-amenable. In the case where ph is an isomorphism on A we showthat the ph- amenability of A implies its ph-biatness.
BACKGROUND The proteinogenic branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) valine, leucine and isoleucine might play an unrecognised crucial role in the development of depression through their activation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTor) pathway. The aim of this research project is to evaluate whether BCAAs are altered in patients with major depression and might thus be appropriate biomarkers fo...
PURPOSE Investigations in the field of the learning competence that investigate the impact of the acquisition of new individual competence of those responsible for ophthalmologic clinics, by means of a MBA Administration in Health course, on the organizational modernity of ophthalmologic clinics. METHODS Survey using questionnaires applied to students and former students of the course and to ...
BACKGROUND Despite dedicated emergency theatre, emergency surgery can be often delayed due to competing urgencies, suggesting a need for innovative theatre time management. AIM To investigate if a change in the emergency theatre prioritisation affects outcomes for a common urgent operation such as appendicectomy. METHODS We prospectively recorded data from 67 patients undergoing appendicect...
With the aim of investigating the presence of latent inflammatory process in the lungs of patients with Crohn's disease, 15 patients with Crohn's disease were evaluated by spirometry, the methacholine challenge test, induced sputum, and skin tests for inhaled antigens. Serum IgE, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hematocrit were also determined. The patients were compared with 20 healthy contr...
Through random cut-points theory, the author extends inference for ordered categorical data to the unspecified continuum underlying the ordered categories. He shows that a random cut-point Mann–Whitney test yields slightly smaller p-values than the conventional test for most data. However, when at least P% of the data lie in one of the k categories (with P = 80 for k = 2, P = 67 for k = 3, . . ...
The Mann-Whitney effect is an intuitive measure for discriminating two survival distributions. Here we analyze various inference techniques for this parameter in a two-sample survival setting with independent right-censoring, where the survival times are even allowed to be discretely distributed. This allows for ties in the data and requires the introduction of normalized versions of Kaplan-Mei...
