In this study, a mixed matrix polyethersulfone/iron-nickel oxide nanoparticle nanofiltration membrane was prepared by the solution casting technique. Polyvinylpyrrolidone was also used as a membrane pore former in membrane fabrication. The effect of iron-nickel oxide nanoparticles concentration in the casting solution on the membrane structure and performance was investigated. Scanning...

Simultaneous improvement in CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity was obtained from mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) containing dual-functionalized mesoporous TiO2 hollow nanospheres (f-MTHS). Dual functionality resulted in the increased CO2 affinity and improved interfacial properties between inorganic nanofillers and the polymer matrix.

High strength and elastic biodegradable membranes are of great demand in modern technology. Similar membranes have been developed by irradiating different weight poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) – hydroxypropyl guar gum (HPG) blends and followed by combining with ex situ nanosilica. Polarized light microscopic (PLM) study indicates that electron beam irradiation produced crosslinks and develop...

Biofouling impedes the performance of membrane bioreactors. In this study, we investigated the antifouling effects of polysulfone membranes that were modified by 1,2,3-triazole and palladium (Pd) nanoparticles. The modified membranes were evaluated for antibacterial and antifouling efficacy in a monoculture species biofilm (i.e., drip flow biofilm reactor, DFR) and mixed species biofilm experim...

the performances of two-phase polymer-liquid pebax®/polyethylene glycol (peg) and three-phase polymer-liquid-solid pebax®/peg/mwnt thin film composite membranes for co2 and ch4 permeation were studied. the effect of temperature and mwnt/pebax® ratio on single gas (co2 and ch4) permeability was investigated. the permeation of both gases was measured at different temperatures from 303 to 323 ˚k. ...

the gas separation performance of commercial ceramic titania and hybrid silica (hybsi®) membranes was assessed using the gas permeation and permporometry methods. results indicated that the hybsi® membranes have a hybrid surface containing regions covered by a polymeric matrix and others with inorganic pores. these membranes have high h2 selectivity, which increases significantly with temperatu...

Polysulfone (PSF)-based mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) were developed through incorporation by solvent casting of poly(ethylene glycol)-grafted carbon nanotubes (PEG-g-CNTs) into the polymer matrix. Single-gas permeability and respective perm-selectivity values resulting MMMs for CO2, CH4, N2 along with mixed-gas selectivities determined at various temperatures pressures. The performance was fur...

this paper discusses different important gas permeation models such as “maxwell”, “bruggeman”, “lewis-neilson”, and “pal” models to predict “mixed matrix membranes” (mmms) performance. the main parameter considered and discussed is the permeability of hydrogen on carbon nanotubes (cnts)-mmm. for evaluation of the theoretical models, experimental data of permeability for h2 were compared to the ...

Soft microporous materials exhibit properties, such as gated adsorption and breathing, which are highly desirable for many applications. These properties are largely studied for single crystals; however, many potential applications expect to construct structured or composite systems, examples of which include monoliths and mixed-matrix membranes. Herein, we use finite element methods to predict...
