In this paper we introduce three alternative combinatorial formulations of the theory of evidence (ToE), by proving that both plausibility and commonality functions share the structure of “sum function” with belief functions. We compute their Moebius inverses, which we call basic plausibility and commonality assignments. As these results are achieved in the framework of the geometric approach t...

We prove that | ∑ d≤x μ(d)/d| log x ≤ 1/69 when x ≥ 96 955 and deduce from that: ∣ ∣ ∣ ∣ ∑{ d≤x, (d,q)=1 μ(d)/d ∣ ∣ ∣ ∣ log(x/q) ≤ 4 5 q/φ(q) for every x > q ≥ 1. We also give better constants when x/q is larger. Furthermore we prove that |1 − ∑ d≤x μ(d) log(x/d)/d| ≤ 3 14 / log x and several similar bounds, from which we also prove corresponding bounds when summing the same quantity, but with ...

We prove that | ∑{ d≤x, (d,q)=1 μ(d)/d| ≤ 2.4 (q/φ(q))/ log(x/q) for every x > q ≥ 1 and similar estimates for the Liouville functions. We give also better constants when x/q is larger.

We start with a modular K-system that possesses Anosov endomorphisms in both time directions. We extend the system via a crossed product construction. If one of the Anosov endomorphisms can be extended, then also the other one. Also the extensions form a Moebius group and allow a time reeection operator that implements on the algebra an antiisomorphism.

– We investigate the influence of the topology on generic features of the persistent current in n–fold twisted Moebius strips formed of quasi one–dimensional mesoscopic rings, both for free electrons and in the weakly disordered regime. We find that there is no generic difference between the persistent current for untwisted rings and for Moebius strips with an arbitrary number of twists. Introd...

Missense mutations in TUBB3, the gene that encodes the neuronal-specific protein β-tubulin isotype 3, can cause isolated or syndromic congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles, a form of complex congenital strabismus characterized by cranial nerve misguidance. One of the eight TUBB3 mutations reported to cause congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles, c.1228G>A results in a TUBB3 E41...

We propose an interpolation method that is invariant under Möbius transformations; that is, interpolation followed by transformation gives the same result as transformation followed by interpolation. The method uses natural (Delaunay) neighbors, but weights neighbors according to angles formed by Delaunay circles.
