Abstract Background Placental passage of drugs in twins is poorly understood, and unknown regarding antiretrovirals (ARVs). In the event large differences exposure 2 to same maternal therapy, this could have a clinical impact terms prevention perinatal HIV transmission or adverse effects. Objective To describe frequency differential transplacental between twins. Study design The study was perfo...

The twin—twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a congenital pathology affecting 15% of monochorionic twin pregnancies [1]. The treatment modes most frequently applied at present include serial amnioreduction [2] and selective endoscopic laser coagulation of anastomoses (ELCA) [3]. The only prospective, randomized, controlled study that has been performed to compare the effectiveness of these two ...

A case of monochorionic twin boys delivered at 34 weeks of gestation following induced ovulation with clomiphene is described. One twin was typed as blood group AB and the other as B. Flow cytometry showed blood group chimerism. DNA polymorphism analysis of peripheral lymphocytes and hair root cells showed that the chimerism was confined to the blood cells and they were dizygotic.

BACKGROUND Monozygotic (MZ) twinning is a poorly understood phenomenon that may result in subtle biologic differences between twins, despite their identical inheritance. These differences may in part account for discordant expression of disease in MZ twin pairs. Due to their stochastic nature, differences in X chromosome inactivation patterns are one source of such variation in female MZ twins....

OBJECTIVE To compare the placental volume at 11 + 0 to 13 + 6 weeks' gestation between singleton and multiple pregnancies and to examine the possible effect of chorionicity on placental volume. METHODS The placental volume was measured by three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound using the Virtual Organ Computer-aided AnaLysis (VOCAL) technique in 290 consecutive twin and 37 triplet pregnancies at 11...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the initial experience at our centre in the treatment of monochorionic twin pregnancies complicated by twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence (TRAP), using radiofrequency ablation (RFA) with expandable needles, and to review the existing literature on the subject. STUDY DESIGN Between July 2007 and October 2010, 11 monochorionic twin pregnancies complicated by TRAP we...

When to deliver the monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins with specific cord patterns? Although there is no clear evidence supporting an earlier delivery (before 36 weeks of gestation) in MCDA twins, an earlier delivery might prevent intrauterine death or neuromorbidity in MCDA twins with specific cord patterns.
