We establish a relation between concurrence and entanglement witnesses. In particular, we construct entanglement witnesses for three-qubit W and GHZ states in terms of concurrence and different set of operators that generate it. We also generalize our construction for multi-qubit states.

The Cognitive Interview is among the most widely accepted forms of police interviewing techniques; however, it is ineffective for witnesses with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). One of its main components involves mentally reinstating the internal and external context that was experienced at encoding. We report evidence showing that it is the mental reinstatement instructions in the absence of a...

We study non-deterministic communication protocols in which no input has too many witnesses. De ne nk(f) to be the minimum complexity of a non-deterministic protocol for the function f in which each input has at most k witnesses. We present two di erent lower bounds for nk(f). Our rst result shows that nk(f) is bounded below by (qc(f)=k) where c(f) is the deterministic complexity. Our second re...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Some patients, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, refuse to use blood products, which can make it difficult to achieve the same outcomes as in the general population. The objective of this study was to determine whether clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes in Jehovah's Witnesses undergoing cardiac surgery are similar to those in other patients. METHODS Paired-g...

OBJECTIVES To identify the reasons why individuals contact, or delay contacting, emergency medical services in response to stroke symptoms. DESIGN Qualitative interview study with a purposive sample of stroke patients and witnesses, selected according to method of accessing medical care and the time taken to do so. Data were analysed using the Framework approach. SETTING Area covered by thr...

We formalize a notion of witnesses for satisfaction of linear temporal logic specifications by infinite state programs. We show how such witnesses may be constructed via predicate abstraction, and validated by generating verification conditions and proving them. We propose the use of SAT-based theorem provers and resolution proofs in proving these verification conditions. In addition to yieldin...

Studies asking witnesses to identify perpetrators from photo lineups have usually found that witness racial prejudice is unrelated to perpetrator identification accuracy. However, these studies obtained identifications from a photoarray in which photos were presented simultaneously. Study 1 used a procedure in which photos were presented sequentially. Results showed that when perpetrators were ...

We present an analysis of the properties and characteristics of weakly optimal entanglement witnesses, that is witnesses whose expectation value vanishes on at least one product vector. Any weakly optimal entanglement witness can be written as the form of Wwopt = σ − cmax σ I, where cmax σ is a non-negative number and I is the identity matrix. We show the relation between the weakly optimal wit...

Police investigators agree that eyewitnesses usually provide central leads in their investigations (Berresheim and Weber, 2003; George and Clifford, 1992; Kebbell and Milne, 1998). Police lament, however, that witnesses rarely provide sufficient information (Kebbell and Milne, 1998). How might police improve the quality and quantity of evidence elicited from eyewitnesses? Unfortunately, police ...

Editor—Sydor and colleagues studied trainee behaviour in a crisis situation, and trainee ability to challenge a decision by a consultant anaesthetist to administer blood to a patient who is a Jehovah’s Witness. This was described as unethical, although perhaps a better term would be ‘in breach of the law’. I would like to put it to the authors that unless the notes were shown to contain the pro...
