We develop a facile approach to fabricating multifunctional dendrimer-stabilized gold nanoparticles (Au DSNPs) for cancer cell targeting and imaging. In this work, amine-terminated generation 5 (G5) poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers pre-functionalized with folic acid (FA) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FI) are complexed with Au(III) ions, followed by acetylation of the amine groups on the de...

The emergence of drug-resistant superbugs remains a major burden to society. As the mortality rate caused by sepsis due to superbugs is more than 40%, accurate identification of blood infections during the early stage will have a huge significance in the clinical setting. Here, we report the synthesis of red/blue fluorescent carbon dot (CD)-attached magnetic nanoparticle-based multicolor multif...

Microbubbles (MBs) coupled with nanoparticles represent a new class of multifunctional probe for multiscale biomedical imaging and drug delivery. In this study, we describe the development of multifunctional, microscale microbubble probes that are composed of a nitrogen gas core and a biocompatible polymer shell harboring silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Ultrasound imaging studies show that the pr...

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the liver. The early and effective diagnosis has always been desired. Herein, we present the preparation and characterization of hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified, multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs) targeting CD44 receptor-expressing cancer cells for computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance (MR) dual-mode imaging. We first mod...

Multifunctional nanomaterials showed graet advantages in drug delivery. Folic acid (FA) binding protein, a glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol anchored cell surface receptor for folate, is overexpressed in several human tumors, whereas it is highly restricted in normal tissues. Therefore, in this study, FA, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and Fe3O4 nanoparticles multifunctionalized short multiwall carbon...

Fabrication and decoration of flexible Nylon 6,6 polymeric nanofibrous mats for production of multifunctional electrospun material was accomplished via visible light-emitting surface-protected silicon quantum dots (Si QD), ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NP) and Pd nanocubes (Pd NC). UV-range light was utilized for Si QD production and, after hydrolysis/condensation together with nucleation and growth r...

We present the preparation and the characterization of the solution behavior and functional properties of superparamagnetic and/or fluorescent, thermo-responsive inorganic/organic hybrid particles with an intermediate protective silica shell and a smart polymer corona. These well-defined multifunctional nanogels were prepared via two consecutive encapsulation processes of superparamagnetic Fe(2...

Monodisperse multifunctional MnFe2O4/dye/silica core/shell nanoparticles have been designed and developed. The magnetic cores act as nano-heaters in biological systems under RF field excitation and the encapsulated dyes work as local temperature probes. The silica shells enable the water-solubility and biocompatibility of the NPs and protect the encapsulated fluorophores from photobleaching.

Nanocellulose hybrids are promising candidates for biodegradable multifunctional materials. Hybrids of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) nanoparticles were obtained through a facile chemical approach over a wide range of compositions. Controlling the interactions between NCC and ACC results in hard, transparent structures with tunable composition, homogeneity...
