A technology for recording electrical activity of large neuron populations at arbitrary depth in brain tissues with less than cell spatial and millisecond temporal resolutions was the most craving dream of neuroscientists and a long pursued goal of engineers for decades. Even though many imaging techniques have been devised up to date, none of them is capable to deliver either quantitatively va...

In this manuscript, we report some proofs-of-principle and preliminary applications and results regarding the analytical quantification of protein expression of some genes biologically and clinically related to cancer. Experiments have been carried out coupling Nucleic Acid Programmable Protein Array (NAPPA) with a recently improved nanogravimetric apparatus which exploits the quartz crystal mi...

A gold nanorod-locked nucleic acid nano-biosensor for dynamic single-cell gene expression analysis in living cells and tissues is developed. The nanoparticle facilitates endocytic delivery and dynamic monitoring of the gene expression in human umbilical cord endothelial cells, mouse skin tissues, mouse retina tissues, and mouse cornea tissues at the single-cell level.

Self-assembled monolayers of charged polymers are an integral component of many state-of-the-art nanobiosensors. Electrical interactions between charged surfaces and charged biomolecules, adopting the roles of linkers or capture molecules, are not only crucial to the sensor performance but may also be exploited for novel sensing concepts based on electrically actuated interfaces. Here we introd...

The applications of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires (NWs) in implantable wireless devices, such as diagnostic nanobiosensors and nanobiogenerators, have recently attracted enormous attention due to their unique properties. However, for these implantable nanodevices, the biocompatibility and the ability to control the behaviour of cells in contact with ZnO NWs are demanded for the success of these im...

Selected by in vitro techniques (SELEX, cell-SELEX), aptamers are strands of DNA or RNA 13 molecules able to bind a wide range of targets, from small molecules to live cells, and even tissues, 14 with high affinity and specificity. Due to their efficient targeting ability, aptamers are extensively 15 used in different fields of applications. For example, they ensure high performance as cancer-r...

Increasing attention has been recently devoted to protein-based nanobiosensors. The main reason is the huge number of possible technological applications, going from drug detection to cancer early diagnosis. Their operating model is based on the protein activation and the corresponding conformational change, due to the capture of an external molecule, the so-called ligand. Recent measurements, ...
