The new π-accepting ability parameter (PAAP) appears to be the best tool to analyse the electronic properties of NHC ligands in [Ir(H)2(NHC)(Py)3](+) complexes for SABRE. Together with the buried volume, the efficiency of hyperpolarisation transfer in SABRE, depending on the exchange rate of pyridine, can be described.

Methods for the highly stereoselective and regiodivergent hydrosilylation of 1,3-disubstituted allenes have been developed. The synthesis of E allylsilanes is accomplished with palladium NHC catalysts, and trisubstituted Z alkenylsilanes are accessed with nickel NHC catalysts. Unsymmetrically substituted allenes are well tolerated with nickel catalysis and afford Z alkenylsilanes. Evidence for ...

New Ir-NHC complexes based on different heterocyclic moieties like imidazole, benzimidazole and imidazolidine are presented and tested in transfer hydrogenation catalysis. A broad range of steric and electronic properties of NHC ligands is covered to give an idea for catalyst design from the experimental point of view.

A novel NHC–palladium(II) (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) complex and its immobilised version have been prepared and fully characterised. Optimisation studies led to good catalytic activities in Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling and chloroarene dehalogenation reactions. Furthermore, the unexpected palladium-mediated transfer hydrogenation of a carbonyl compound is reported.

Lithium(I) and uranium(VI) amido-tethered Bu(t)-substituted N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes exhibit very distorted metal-carbene bonds; the corresponding magnesium(II) and mesityl-substituted NHC uranium(VI) complexes are undistorted; the distortion does not affect the ligand binding strength, suggesting a dominance of electrostatic character in closed-shell electropositive metal-carbene...

The preparation of rhenium based octahedral clusters containing N-heterocyclic carbenes is described. These represent the first examples of [M6(μ3-Q)8](n+) or [M6(μ3-X)8](n+) clusters to contain a carbene ligand of any type (NHC, Fischer or Schrock). Surprisingly, the NHC ligands attenuate their luminescent properties.

Rh-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes were generated in situ from imidazolium salts, [RhCl(cod)](2) and t-BuOK in dioxane. In the presence of a catalytic amount of Rh-NHC complexes, the addition reaction of phenylboronic acid to N-sulfonylarylimines and N-phosphinyolarylimines gave the corresponding amines in high yields.

We report the development of ruthenium-based metathesis catalysts with chelating N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands that catalyze highly Z-selective olefin metathesis. A very simple and convenient procedure for the synthesis of such catalysts has been developed. Intramolecular C-H bond activation of the NHC ligand, promoted by anion ligand substitution, forms the appropriate chelate for stere...

Homo- and heteroleptic bis-NHC copper(I) complexes have been efficiently used as carbene transfer reagents to Au and Pd. The simple and straightforward procedure allows for the synthesis of well-known gold complexes as well as novel cationic bis-NHC Pd(II) species.

Stable and active Ru olefin metathesis catalyst 7 bearing a sterically reduced NHC ligand was synthesized. Upon action of pyridine, 7 forms complex 24, the first example of an Ru–indenylidene catalyst bearing a labile pyridine ligand and a sterically less demanding NHC ligand.
