An efficient and bench-stable reagent was synthesized for direct and covalent introduction of tetrazines onto target protein or virus surfaces, which can be further modified based on tetrazine-ene ligation to achieve fluorescence labelling or PEGylation under mild conditions.

A rapid and effective enzymatic strategy for the fabrication of a supramolecular polymer is presented for the first time, in which a bifunctional ternary host-guest supramonomer is first prepared followed by subsequent enzymatic coupling of supramonomers.

Protocols for immunolabeling vary widely due to experimental goals. Interactions that contribute to antibody binding include hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, hydrophobic interactions and van der Waals forces. The strength of each of these interactions is weak compared to a covalent bond. Consequently, a large number of noncovalent interactions are required to stabilize antibody binding to an antige...

Understanding the wide variety of targeting functions imposed by the covalent attachment of ubiquitin requires molecular analyses of its interaction with binding proteins. Evidence is now available that demonstrates the importance of electrostatic and hydrophobic forces (mechanistically weak but functionally important) that provide the framework for covalent bond formation in these interactions...

After a brief discussion of the σ-hole concept and the significance of molecular electrostatic potentials in noncovalent interactions, we draw attention to some common misconceptions that are encountered in that context: (1) Since the electrostatic potential reflects the contributions of both the nuclei and the electrons, it cannot be assumed that negative potentials correspond to “electron-ric...

biological materials. recently. are the building blocks of several self-assembling peptide and protein systems.the main challenge in molecular self-assembly is to design molecular building blocks that can undergospontaneous organization. these cyche peptides were produced by an alternating fl'ell number of d- and laminoacids.which interact through non-covalent interactions co an array of selfas...

We consider the roles of heteroatoms (mainly nitrogen, the halogens and the chalcogens) in dictating the conformation of linear conjugated molecules and polymers through non-covalent intramolecular interactions. Whilst hydrogen bonding is a competitive and sometimes more influential interaction, we provide unambiguous evidence that heteroatoms are able to determine the conformation of such mate...

Investigating the complementary, but different, effects of physical (non-covalent) and chemical (covalent) mutagen-DNA and carcinogen-DNA interactions is important for understanding possible mechanisms of development and prevention of mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. A highly mutagenic and carcinogenic metabolite of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[α]pyrene, namely (+)-anti-BPDE, is kno...

A modular self-assembly strategy is presented that allows the non-covalent synthesis of multivalent protein dendrimers using the strong interaction between choline-functionalized dendrimers and the choline binding protein C-LytA. Choline dendrimers displaying fusion proteins of C-LytA and the collagen binding protein CNA35 represent attractive multivalent targeting ligands for collagen imaging.
