There is currently no standard method for delineating the oral mucosa and most attempts are oversimplified. A new method to obtain anatomically accurate contours of the oral mucosa surfaces was developed and applied to 11 patients. This is expected to represent an opportunity for improved toxicity modelling of oral mucositis.

Self-assembled cholesterol-asplatin-incorporated nanoparticles (SCANs) were prepared for oral delivery of a Pt(IV) prodrug. SCANs exhibit high gastrointestinal stability, sustained drug release and enhanced cell uptake. The oral bioavailability of SCANs was 4.32-fold higher than that of free Pt(IV) prodrugs. The oral administration of SCANs efficaciously inhibits tumor growth with negligible to...

BACKGROUND 6-Mercaptopurine and its prodrug azathioprine are effective medications for refractory inflammatory bowel disease. However, use of these drugs has been limited by concerns about their toxicity. Colonic delivery of azathioprine may reduce its systemic bioavailability and limit toxicity. AIM To determine the bioavailability of 6-mercaptopurine after administration of azathioprine via...

It is well known that intravenous administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces severe toxicity in mammals. The maximum tolerated dose of intravenous administration of LPS in humans is reported to be only 1 to 4 ng/kg body weight. However, oral administration of a high dose of LPS caused no toxicity or systemic inflammation in other mammals, birds, or fish. Two weeks of oral administration...

Introduction: Certain herbal medicines are being marketed without standard toxicological study. Although people believe that herbal medicine don’t have toxic effects, there are some reports indicating the toxicity of herbal medicine. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate hepatic and renal toxicity of percolated extract of Capparis Spinosa that has an analgesic effect and is tradition...
