Idiopathic granulomatous inflammation is regarded as a histopathologic variant of an orbital pseudotumor and has a similar clinical presentation and treatment. However, the differential diagnosis including sarcoidosis, Wegener's granulomatosis, trauma, and infection must be ruled out. We present a 77-year-old man with a biopsy-proven lacrimal gland granulomatous inflammation of an unknown origi...
The case of a patient with a foreign body in the orbit is presented. The presence of this foreign body induced an aggressively expanding pseudotumor, infiltrating the eyelids, orbital muscles and the sclera. The process of diagnosis, management and the results of treatment are described. This case is noteworthy because of the atypical course of the disease in a patient with a foreign body follo...
lnflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) is a rare, non-neoplastic inflammatory process. It is most commonly occurs in the orbit, but extension into brain parenchyma is uncommon. In a confirmed case of IPT, most cases show good improvement with steroid theraphy. A 50-year-old man with progressive left-eye visual disturbance and mass lesion was admitted in a hospital. A left orbital mass biopsy revealed w...
A survey of theoretical studies of charge transfer involving collisions of multiply-charged ions with atomic neutrals (H and He) is presented. The calculations utilized the quantum-mechanical molecular-orbital close-coupling (MOCC) approach where the requisite potential curves and coupling matrix elements have been obtained with the spin-coupled valence bond (SCVB) method. Comparison is made am...
The He I photoelectron (PE) spectra of stilbene (1), 2,2'-dichlorostilbene (2) 2-amino-2'-chlorostilbene (3), 2,2'-diaminostilbene (4) ,and 2,2'-dinitrostilbene (5), all in their trans configuration are recorded and discussed. The electronic structure of 1-5 can well be described on the basis of the composite molecule method and simple Hiickel molecular orbital (HMO) calculations. Results indic...
The authors present a case of a 4-year-old girl with an orbital floor fracture. During surgery absorbable collagenous mesh (Pelvicol) was placed between the bone wall and the orbital periosteum. Pelvicol was selected as a natural xenogeneic tissue (porcine dermis) ready for first use in the reconstruction of the orbital floor fracture. The patient has fully recovered without any symptoms.
Trapdoor fracture is a type of orbital fracture frequently observed in pediatric patients after facial trauma. The treatment options and surgical outcomes associated with this fracture are controversial. This study investigated the surgery principles and strategies as well as the functional training for the recovery and prognosis of pediatric patients with trapdoor fracture.A retrospective study...
Calcifying fibrous pseudotumor is a rare, benign, hypocellular tumor-like lesion that is characterized by the presence of dense hyalinized collagenous tissue interspersed with small spindle cells, dystrophic calcifications, or psammomatous and variable lymphoplasmacytic infiltrations. We report the case of a 37-year-old woman with a posterior mediastinal mass, in close contact with the distal t...
