A flow injection configuration (FIA) based on a galvanic detector for the determination of nitrogen dioxide is described. The gaseous sample is directly injected into a gaseous carrier. The sample is transported toward the detector. The steady state measurements are not required to obtain the reproducible peak signals. The features of FIA are compared with that of continuous flow monitoring app...

We detail in this paper the implementation of the optimal Bayes multiframe detector/tracker for rigid objects moving randomly in two-dimensional (2D) finite grids. We present 2D models for target signature and target motion that build an integrated framework for detection and tracking. We model the background clutter by 2D correlated noncausal Gauss-Markov fields of arbitrary order. By explorin...

A new continuous-flow automated enzymatic method suitable for the direct determination of creatinine in physiological samples is described. The proposed system utilizes an on-line gas predialysis unit in conjunction with a flow-through enzyme reactor coil and a potentiometric ammonia detector. The enzyme reactor contains immobilized creatinine iminohydrolase (EC 3.5.4.21) which converts creatin...

A new detector design using pixelated NaI(Tl) crystals has been evaluated for use in positron emission tomography (PET). This detector uses 4 4 30 mm NaI(Tl) pixels coupled via a lightguide (1.4 cm thick) to an array of 39 mm diameter photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) in an Anger detector design. Our measurements show that the high light output of NaI(Tl) leads to a good discrimination of the 4 mm N...

The performance characteristics of single-crystalline diamond detectors at varying rates heavy-ions below 50 MeV/u have been investigated. When tested with a 228Th source, the energy resolution these is better than 1.0% FWHM for 8.8 MeV α-particles. With slight reduction in resolution, simultaneous timing 314 ps has achieved. Isotopic achieved up to magnesium using telescope low 20 20Ne + 12C r...

Using e+e--->Ds*-Ds+ data collected near the peak Ds production energy, Ecm=4170 MeV, with the CLEO-c detector, we present the first observation of the decay Ds+-->pn. We measure a branching fraction B(Ds+-->pn)=(1.30+/-0.36(-0.16)+0.12)x10(-3). This is the first observation of a charmed meson decaying into a baryon-antibaryon final state.

Counting small peaks on large backgrounds in XRF applications is a process limited by the statistics of estimating both the counts and the background in the peak region. Improving energy resolution ΔE helps by increasing peak/background ratio and providing a more accurate estimate of the background but also reduces counting statistics due to increased pileup losses. Time variant filtering techn...

phase sensitive detector described here has two principal applications: a- to produce a d.c out put proportional to- the amplitude of an incoming a,c signal and indicate, by the outut polarity, the phase of the signal with respect to an internal reference. b- to detect the presence of a signal of known phase and frequency which would otherwise be lost in «background noise» and to measure its am...

Theoretical models of ?-delayed neutron emission are used as crucial inputs in r-process calculations. Benchmarking the predictions these is a challenge due to lack currently available experimental data. In this work probabilities 33 nuclides important mass regions south and south-west 132Sn presented, 16 for first time. The measurements were performed at RIKEN using Advanced Implantation Detec...
