Light falling on a photodetector produces an output current that fluctuates. The noise in this signal arises from two sources: randomness in the photon arrivals and randomness in the carrier multiplication process intrinsic to the photodetector. A general formula is derived for the variance of the photodetector output current in terms of parameters characterizing these two sources of randomness...

Self-Powered Photodetector A strategy to enhance the photothermal conversion of UV light by LSPR silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) is proposed Jianping Meng, Zhou Li, and co-workers in article number 2200327. After decorating Ag NPs, photodetector based on Schottky junction ZnO nanowires (NWs) can detect with low power density. The enhanced performance attributed high-quality factor NPs wavelength ...

In an infrared photodetector, noise current (dark current) is generated throughout the volume of detector. Reducing will reduce dark current, but corresponding smaller area also received signal. By using a separate antenna to receive light, one can detector without reducing signal, thereby increasing its signal ratio (SNR). Here, we present dielectric resonator (DRA) coupled photodetector. Its ...

We demonstrate a 67 GHz bandwidth silicon-contacted germanium waveguide p-i-n photodetector operating at -1 V with 6.8 fF capacitance. The dark current is below 4 nA. The responsivity is 0.74 A/W at 1550 nm and 0.93 A/W at 1310 nm wavelength. 56 Gbps on-off-keying data reception is demonstrated with clear open eye diagrams in both the Cband and O-band. 2015 Optical Society of America OCIS code...

We study the optical transition between bound-to-continuum states in InGaAs/GaAs quantum well infrared photodetector (QWIP) by analyzing two possible boundary conditions for the continuum states. InGaAs/GaAs QWIP differs from the GaAs/AlGaAs QWIP in many aspects. Comparing running wave function and Bloch wave function with experimental results, we find that Bloch wave function is the much more ...

Measurement and fluctuations are closely related to each other in quantum mechanics. This fact is explicitly demonstrated in the case of a quantum non-demolition photodetector which is composed of a double quantum-wire electron interferometer.

By using tailored pulse sequences from a novel, 1.5-microm direct space-to-time pulse shaper driving a high-speed photodetector, we have achieved, for the first time to our knowledge, millimeter-wave arbitrary waveform generation at center frequencies approaching 50 GHz. By appropriately designing the driving optical pulse sequences, we demonstrate the ability to synthesize strongly phase- and ...
