Currently, most ethanol produced in the United States is derived from maize kernel, at levels in excess of four billion gallons per year. Plant lignocellulosic biomass is renewable, cheap and globally available at 10-50 billion tons per year. At present, plant biomass is converted to fermentable sugars for the production of biofuels using pretreatment processes that disrupt the lignocellulose a...

A calorific value of various biomass samples (waste of wood, paper, textile, agricultural plants) and liquid biofuels (bioethanol, biodiesel) has been studied in this paper. In addition, a specific combustion heat of the biomass samples was calculated, which almost was coincided with the experimental heating value. It was established that the specific combustion heat of the investigated solid p...

Fungi play a major role in the global carbon cycle because of their ability to utilize plant biomass (polysaccharides, proteins, and lignin) as carbon source. Due to the complexity and heterogenic composition of plant biomass, fungi need to produce a broad range of degrading enzymes, matching the composition of (part of) the prevalent substrate. This process is dependent on a network of regulat...

batch adsorption experiments were performed to study adsorption potential of agricultural residues viz. rice straw, wheat straw and salvinia plant biomass for removal of heavy metals such as cr, ni, and cd. plant materials were used in different combinations. heavy metal removal efficiency was more at low metal concentration (35 mg/l). salvinia biomass possessed higher efficiency for removing h...

The degree to which vertebrate herbivores exploitatively compete for the same food plant may depend on the level of compensatory plant growth. Such compensation is higher when there is reduced density-dependent competition in plants after herbivore damage. Whether there is relief from competition may largely be determined by the life-history stage of plants under herbivory. Such stage-specific ...

BACKGROUND The spatial distribution of forage resources is a major driver of animal movement patterns. Understanding where animals forage is important for the conservation of multi-species communities, since interspecific competition can emerge if different species use the same depletable resources. However, determining forage resources in a spatially continuous fashion in alpine grasslands at ...

In this paper, the electrical consumption of Hamedan University is derived of the bills, Then with defining of fuzzy Bus Thermal Coefficient objective function for heating, the amount of available heat selling to university consumer that is produced by Biomass CHP plant is calculated. With the capacity determination of Biomass CHP plant to provide Thermal and electrical energy of university and...

We announce the availability of the genome sequence of Streptomyces viridosporus strain T7A ATCC 39115, a plant biomass-degrading actinomycete. This bacterium is of special interest because of its capacity to degrade lignin, an underutilized component of plants in the context of bioenergy. It has a full complement of genes for plant biomass catabolism.

The gastrointestinal (GI) habitat of ruminant and non-ruminant animals sustains a vast ensemble of microbes that are capable of utilizing lignocellulosic plant biomass. In this study, an indigenous swine (Zovawk) and a domesticated goat (Black Bengal) were investigated to isolate bacteria having plant biomass degrading enzymes. After screening and enzymatic quantification of eighty-one obtained...

It is known that plant height is a suitable parameter for estimating crop biomass. The aim of this study was to confirm the validity of spatial plant height data, which is derived from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), as a non-destructive estimator for biomass of paddy rice on the field scale. Beyond that, the spatial and temporal transferability of established biomass regression models were i...
