Excess female mortality during childhood is a distinct and unrelieved phenomenon in India, particularly in the two northern Indian states— Punjab and Haryana. This paper investigates the basic facts of sex differentials in child mortality in a very comprehensive manner using the three rounds of NFHS data sets from 1992 to 2006. More specifically, this paper examines the following three basic qu...

The traditional regression analysis is usually applied to homogeneous observations. However, there are several real situations where the observations are not homogeneous. In these cases, by utilizing the traditional regression, we have a loss of performance in fitting terms. Then, for improving the goodness of fit, it is more suitable to apply the so-called clusterwise regression analysis. The ...

Presented are models for length of hospital stay data. The Hurdle model is an extension to the Poisson model when the data structure can be considered as two separate processes as was evident with the present case study. Hospital data was considered and collected as part of a larger study over a five year period. The Hurdle model appeared the most appropriate in terms of overall goodness of fit.

In this chapter, we discuss fitting probability laws to data. Many families of probability laws depend on a small number of parameters; for example, the Poisson family depends on the parameter λ (the mean number of counts), and the Gaussian family depends on two parameters, μ and σ . Unless the values of parameters are known in advance, they must be estimated from data in order to fit the proba...

Consider a linear regression model with unknown regression parameters 0 and independent errors of unknown distribution. Block the observations into q groups whose independent variables have a common value and measure the homogeneity of the blocks of residuals by a Cramér-von Mises q-sample statistic Tq( ). This statistic is designed so that its expected value as a function of the chosen regress...

Mainland China has become one of the most important markets for international fast-food chains over the past decade. To study the regional spread of KFC and McDonald’s outlets in Chinese cities, the correlation of their distributions and degree of market expansion were explored and compared to analyze both the local and the global spatial autocorrelations. A geographically weighted Poisson regr...
