The planar structure of aculeximycin (1) produced by Streptosporangium albidum has been determined by spectral methods and chemical degradations such as 1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undec-7-ene (DBU)-methanol reaction, ozonolysis, and periodative oxidation. The antibiotic consists of a 30-membered polyhydroxy lactone ring, an alpha, beta-unsaturated ester group, an intramolecular hemiketal, an oligos...

We studied qualitative pattern of urinary acidic metabolites excreted by normal persons. The results provide a basis on which to compare results for patients with potentially abnormal organic acidurias. A series of urinary polyhydroxy (aldonic and deoxyaldonic) acids has been identified. Most of these compounds have not been previously reported in human urine, except in connection with the pres...

Leucofoline and leuconoline, representing the first members of the aspidospermatan-aspidospermatan and eburnane-sarpagine subclasses of the bisindole alkaloids, respectively, were isolated from the Malayan Leuconotis griffithii. The structures of these bisindole alkaloids were established using NMR and MS analysis, and in the case of leuconoline, confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Both al...

Three novel β-carboline alkaloids characterized with a unique degraded monoterpenoid moiety, gelebolines A-C (1-3), together with 11 known alkaloids of different types, were isolated from the roots of Gelsemium elegans. The structures of new alkaloids were established on the basis of analysis of spectroscopic data. It is the first example for report of β-carboline from genus Gelsemium (Loganiac...

Cell suspension of Hyoscyamus a/bus L. were investigated for growth and production of tropane alkaloids in three different media. The effects of sucrose concentration and initial pH were also studied. 2,4Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 1% sucrose enhanced the production of tropane alkaloids. The percent of alkaloids (0.75%) was higher than in the cultivated plant (0.352 %).

Three new pavine N-oxide alkaloids, (-)-isocaryachine-N-oxide B, (+)-caryachine-N-oxide, (-)-caryachine-N-oxide, and a new isoquinoline alkaloid, 6,7-methylenedioxy-N-methylisoquinoline together with 11 known alkaloids were isolated and characterized from the stem bark of Cryptocarya chinensis. The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by spectral methods. The stereochemistry of ...

Background & Aim: A. belladonna (family: Solanaceae) is one of important pharmaceutical plants which contain tropane ‎alkaloids. Tropane alkaloids are distinct group of secondary metabolites of the ‎Solanaceae family.  The most important alkaloids of A. belladonna are atropine and hyoscine that are used extensively because of their medicinal properties. There...

the pyrrolizidine alkaloids (pas) are a group of chemicals found in a variety of plant species throughout the world. these toxic alkaloids are distributed mainly in senecio (compositae), crotalaria (legominosae) and heliotropium (boraginaceae) species. plants containing these alkaloids cause significant mammalian morbidity and mortality, especially in humans. upon ingestion, metabolic activatio...
