Here we describe the first case of a biopsy-proven Cytomegalovirus ulcero-hemorrhagic colitis, associated with Clostridium Difficile co-infection, occurring during standard induction chemotherapy for common B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We discuss the case and focalize clinical management and diagnostic issues arising from it.
Infiltration of the central nervous system is a severe trait of T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Inhibition of CXC chemokine receptor 4 significantly ameliorates T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in murine models of the disease; however, signaling by CXC chemokine receptor 4 is important in limiting the divagation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells out of the perivascular space into th...
We report the anti-leukemic potency of a unique biotargeted nanoscale liposomal nanoparticle (LNP) formulation of the spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) P-site inhibitor C61. C61-loaded LNP were decorated with a murine CD19-specific monoclonal antibody directed against radiation-resistant CD19-receptor positive aggressive B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cells. The biotargeted C61-LNP w...
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic demyelinating disease most often triggered by infection or immunization, though associations with malignancy and stem cell transplant have been described. We described the case of a four-year-old boy with new-onset neurological symptoms associated with ADEM, acute leukemia, and equivocal evidence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. He ...
A murine monoclonal antibody (anti-BL7) was raised by immunization of BALB/c mice with a precursor B-cell line (Josh-7) which detects a heat-stable, nonimmunoprecipitable antigen. The expression of BL7 was investigated in peripheral blood and/or bone marrow leukemic cell suspensions stained by indirect immunofluorescence and analyzed by flow cytometry. Lymphoblasts from 43 of 43 cases of "null"...
Background and Aim: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and is one of the main causes of their mortality. In this study, we examined the expression of long noncoding RNA CCDC26 gene and its downstream C-Kit gene in acute lymphocytic Leukemia cell line. Materials and Methods: This is an experimental study. In this study, the acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia cell lines...
A hyperdiploid karyotype is found in 30% of B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemias in childhood. The time of nondisjunction of chromosomes leading to hyperdiploidy during leukemogenesis is unknown. We used the 3 clonotypic immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) gene rearrangements as molecular markers for each of the 3 chromosomes 14 in a case with hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia to...

Blinatumomab: A Promising New Drug in the Therapeutic Armamentarium for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
The anti CD19/CD3-bispecific T cell–engager monoclonal antibody blinatumomab is an effective drug with an acceptable toxic profile for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This high efficacy has also been observed in patients with minimal residual disease. These favorable results have led to the investigation of the activity of thi...
