A structural stability condition is sought for least squares linear prediction methods in the given data case. Save the Toeplitz case, the structure of the normal equation matrix yields no acknowledged guarantee of stability. Here, a new sufficient condition is provided, and several least squares prediction methods are shown to be structurally stable.

We study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with general nonlinearity of competing type. This equation have travelling waves with nonvanishing condition at infinity in one dimension. We give a sharp condition for the stability and instability of these solutions. This justifies the previous prediction posed in physical literature.

A nonlinear heat conduction equation is studied, and the maximal thermo-geometric parameter in the equation is analytically determined, above which thermal instability occurs.
