Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare autoinflammatory syndrome manifested by skin lesions eventually creating ulcers. Surgical management can lead to scarring and contracture at the site of the lesion due to the pathergy phenomenon. A 43-year-old woman presented with a 5-year history of severe equinovarus deformity due to chronic pyoderma gangrenosum on her posteromedial ankle. She underwent a staged...
PG: Pyoderma gangrenosum CTCL: Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma IL: Interleukin INTRODUCTION Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an uncommon neutrophilic dermatosis characterized classically by the development of rapidly expanding painful ulcerations often on the lower extremities. Although most commonly associatedwith inflammatory bowel disease, acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or monoclonal gammop...
Erythema nodosum and pyoderma gangrenosum are common skin manifestations in inflammatory bowel diseases. Curiously, these two cutaneous features have seldom been reported to occur simultaneously. We present three patients affected with inflammatory bowel disease with concomitant erythema nodosum and pyoderma gangrenosum.
Bacterial folliculitis (superficial pyoderma) is usually caused by a coagulase positive Staphylococcus species. Both S. aureus and S. intermedius have been isolated. In one study, S. aureus accounted for twice as many isolates as S intermedius; the same study isolated some strains of S. hyicus as well. Interestingly, in another study, lysozymes from equine neutrophils were only slightly bacteri...
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare ulcerative skin disorder mainly occurring in adults. It is seen less frequently in children. The cause is unknown but it may occur in association with several disorders. Osteomyelitis is a very rare association. We report a case of pyoderma gangrenosum associated with osteomyelitis in a two-year-old girl.

Cutaneous blastomycosis (CB) is associated with a variety of skin manifestations. Among other entities, CB may be mistaken for pyoderma gangrenosum due to overlap of findings on histopathologic examination. We report a case of CB, initially diagnosed as pyoderma gangrenosum and treated with steroids, leading to disseminated blastomycosis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
A 41-year-old Japanese woman was admitted to the emergency department of our hospital due to a seizure. She had been diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum 11 years ago without bone marrow disease, rheumatoid arthritis, or inflammatory bowel disease. Pyoderma with painful ulcers had repeatedly appeared on the arms, legs, face, and pubic arch despite treatment with systemic prednisolone and cyclosp...
BACKGROUND Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, ulcerative cutaneous condition that was first described by Brocq in 1916. This diagnosis is quite challenging as the histopathological findings are nonspecific. Pyoderma gangrenosum is usually associated with inflammatory bowel disease, leukemia, and hepatitis C. We describe a rare clinical case of a patient with hepatitis C (HCV), mixed cryoglubinemia...
BACKGROUND Dogs and humans with atopic dermatitis (AD) are predisposed to colonization and recurrent infection with Staphylococcus spp. Studies in humans suggest that staphylococcus-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) plays a key role in disease pathogenesis. Few such studies have been undertaken in dogs. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare levels of staphylococcus-specific...
