A novel rapid chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) processing defined by multi-physics fields CVI was used to fabricate carbon/carbon (C/C) composites. Liquid petrol gas is used as carbon source and the parameters were experimental tested and optimized. The influence of temperature and pressure on the growth of pyrocarbon was investigated in detail. Because of the influence of multi-physics fields...

Prosthetic replacement of the proximal interphalangeal joints is an operative treatment for osteoarhtritis, to preserve the range of motion and the function of the hand. The purpose of this study is to detect the differences regarding pain and function between a silicone implant using a volar approach and a resurfacing implant, placed through a dorsal approach. Patients were reviewed clinically...

Scaphotrapeziotrapezoid (STT) joint osteoarthritis accounts for 13% of all wrist arthritis cases. The arthroscopic treatment combines radial midcarpal portal and STT portal called 1-2 midcarpal portal. We performed 13 isolated resections from the scaphoid distal pole. Patients were only women (average age, 58 years). Pain, mobility, and muscular strength improved significantly. At the same time...

A simple strategy to immobilize highly efficient ruthenium based molecular water-oxidation catalysts on the basal-plane pyrolytic graphite electrode (BPG) by polymerization has been demonstrated. The electrode 1@BPG has obtained a high initial turnover frequency (TOF) of 10.47 s(-1) at ∼700 mV overpotential, and a high turnover number (TON) up to 31600 in 1 h electrolysis.

Recent publications demonstrated the generation of magnetic order at room temperature on graphite surfaces after irradiation with protons. In this contribution we show that it is possible to produce magnetic structures in the micrometer range using a proton micro-beam by proton irradiation of the surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite samples. The experimental results are compared with m...

This guide sheet outlines a method for the analysis of cubic crystal forms, this being useful to you for interpreting the transmission diffraction pattern produced by scattering electrons off a thin film target of polycrystalline aluminium. The apparatus also contains samples with hexagonal structures. These are pyrolytic graphite targets, and are available both as single crystals and in polycr...

A liquid-liquid interfacial synthesis using 1,2,4,5-benzenetetrathiol and nickel(II) ions produced a thin black film of a π-conjugated polymer featuring the nickel bis(dithiolene) motif. Its ordered structure was not originally identified due to its amorphicity; however, it was observed to align regularly on a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite substrate using scanning tunnelling microscopy.

We report surface microscopy characterizations of large size graphene films (up to mm) grown on polycrystalline Ni foils and transferred to Si/SiO2. Wrinkles in such films are studied by both atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Local graphitic lattice structures of the films are imaged with atomic-resolution STM and compared with those of the highly ordered py...

We provide evidence that proton irradiation of energy 2.25 MeV on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite samples triggers ferro- or ferrimagnetism. Measurements performed with a superconducting quantum interferometer device and magnetic force microscopy reveal that the magnetic ordering is stable at room temperature.

Highly blue luminescent carbon nanoparticles with photo-luminescence quantum yields of 31.6%-40.6% were prepared by a one-step pyrolytic route from ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid salts and a unique emission that is strongly dependent on pH, solvent, spin, and excitation wavelength was observed.
