In model studies towards the synthesis of harringtonolide, the construction of the tropone moiety via arene cyclopropanation was investigated. The installation of the lactone ring was accomplished by way of a Diels-Alder cycloaddition of various indenones and a-pyones. The incorporation of the key bridge methyl group and subsequent control of its stereochemistry is also outlined.

The solid-state structure of the complex para-sulphonato-calix[8]arene – dimethylammonium – dimethylformamide shows the para-sulphonato-calix[8]arene anion in a pleated cone conformation with the inclusion of four dimethylammonium cations and the dimethylformamide positioned exo to the macrocycle.

New dissymmetric and asymmetric p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene derivatives were prepared as a result of the reaction of p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene with diethyl bromomalonate in the presence of different alkali metals (Cs, K and Na) in refluxing acetone for 7 days. The structures of the prepared compounds were investigated by IR, (1)H-NMR and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy.

This work describes the design and application of a single-pot, reductive arene C-H silanolization of aromatic esters for synthesis of ortho-formyl arylsilanols. This strategy involves a sequence of two transition metal (Ir and Rh)-catalyzed reactions for reductive arene ortho-silylation directed by hydridosilyl acetals and hydrolysis.

It was demonstrated that a novel [3]pseudorotaxane could be separated by column chromatography during the synthesis of a copillar[5]arene. Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that this [3]pseudorotaxane consisted of the copillar[5]arene and its monomer in a molar ratio of 2 : 1.
