Escherichia coli cells bearing certain mutations in rpsD (coding for the 30S ribosomal protein S4) show a ribosomal ambiguity (Ram) phenotype characterized by increased translational error rates. Here we show that spontaneous mutagenesis increases in Ram cells bearing the rpsD14 allele, suggesting that the recently described translational stress-induced mutagenesis pathway is activated in Ram c...

Does Optane’s demise signal the end of use emerging memories in mainstream computing? Not even close! Even today, magnetic random-access memory (RAM) and resistive RAM are making serious inroads into Internet Things endpoints.

Young crossbred lambs and Suffolk rams were exposed to photoperiods stimulatory to growth or reproduction respectively. Whereas long days are known to facilitate rate of gain, feed efficiency and carcass yield in young market lambs, exposure to decreasing daylengths or short days is necessary for successful reproduction of the species. Successful substitution of a "skeleton" long photoperiod (7...

Known Oblivious RAM (ORAM) constructions achieve either optimal bandwidth blowup or optimal latency (as measured by online roundtrips), but not both. We are the first to demonstrate an ORAM scheme, called Bucket ORAM, which attains the best of both worlds. Bucket ORAM simultaneously achieves a single online roundtrip as well as constant overall bandwidth blowup.

During spring sheep do not normally ovulate but exposure to a ram can induce ovulation. In some ewes an LH surge is induced immediately after exposure to a ram thus raising questions about the control of this precocious LH surge. Our first aim was to determine the plasma concentrations of oestradiol (E2) E2 in anoestrous ewes before and after the "ram effect" in ewes that had a "precocious" LH ...

Due to its high density and close-to-SRAM read latency, spin transfer torque RAM (STT-RAM) is considered one of the most-promising emerging memory technologies for designing large last level caches (LLCs). However, in deep sub-micron region, STT-RAM shows read-disturbance error (RDE) whereby a read operation may modify the stored data value and this presents a severe threat to performance and r...

Intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) play important roles in proteins that regulate gene expression. A prominent example is the intracellular domain of the Notch receptor (NICD), which regulates the transcription of Notch-responsive genes. The NICD sequence includes an intrinsically disordered RAM region and a conserved ankyrin (ANK) domain. The 111-residue RAM region mediates bivalent inter...
