A Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) is theoretically analyzed using the Conventional Dielectric Waveguide Model (CDWM), numerically simulated using the High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) software package and experimentally investigated with the consideration of the fundamental mode TE 111. Antenna parameters under investigation inclu...
Signals in the terahertz range are mainly wireless, waveguide-bound or on-chip signals. To measure their spectral power, linewidth and harmonics, usually spectrum analyzers used. Here we present a photonic analyzer for signals frequency from 450 GHz to 1.05 THz with possibility extend its operation Therefore, photonically generated local oscillator is used downconvert signal under test within p...
This paper presents a coplanar waveguide fed rectangular slot antenna tuned by a patch stub. The presented antenna has 98% impedance bandwidth, and 6 dB average gain. The antenna can be used in phased array applications with more than 61% usable bandwidth.
Waveguides can be employed to test nonlinear effects in electrodynamics. We solve Born-Infeld equations for TE waves in a rectangular waveguide. We show that the energy velocity acquires a dependence on the amplitude, and harmonic components appear as a consequence of the nonlinear behavior.
A rigorous analysis combining the orthogonal expansion method and Galerkin method for the higher order eigenmodes in a circular–rectangular (C-R) waveguide is presented in this paper. The Bessel–Fourier series is employed to merge the circular and rectangular coordinate systems used in the analysis. The cutoff frequencies of the higher order modes are determined with the singular value decompos...
We experimentally investigate the dispersion relation of silicon-on-insulator waveguides in the 1.5 microm wavelength range by using a technique based on far-field Fourier-space imaging. The phase information of the propagating modes is transferred into the far field either by linear probe gratings positioned 1 microm away from the waveguide core or by residual gratings located on the sidewalls...
A novel spectral method with variable transformation, the adaptive Hermite-Gauss decomposition method (A-HGDM), has been developed and applied to the analysis of three-dimensional (3D) dielectric structures. The proposed method includes an optimization strategy to automatically find the quasi-optimum numerical parameters of the variable transformation with low computational effort. The techniqu...
FEMLAB and MicroWaveLab, two finite element solvers, are evaluated in the context of needs of microwave power engineering. Limitations of the codes are identified by simulation of characteristics of applicators based on circular and rectangular waveguides as well as coaxial-to-ridgedand coaxial-to-double-ridged waveguide transitions. Results are verified by QuickWave-3D.
The electrodynamical properties of a volume resonator formed by a perodic structure built from the metallic threads inside a rectangular waveguide (”grid” volume resonator) is considered. Peculiarities of passing of electromagnetic waves with different polarizations through such volume resonator are discussed.
Electromagnetic bandgap structures formed by circular posts of magnetized ferrite stacked in a rectangular waveguide is analyzed using the image theory, the lattice sums technique, and the generalized reflection and transmission matrices. The frequency response controllable by the applied magnetic field are discussed for the incidence of the fundamental 10 TE mode.
