s – Data warehouse contains vast amount of data to support complex queries of various Decision Support Systems(DSSs). It needs to store materialized views of data, which must be available consistently and instantaneously. Using a frame metadata model, this paper presents an architecture of a universal data warehousing with different data models. The frame metadata model represents the metadata ...

We describe a simple modification to a rigid endoscope so as to provide both high-quality conventional and confocal images of reasonably accessible regions of the body. This versatile system uses a structured illumination approach together with a conventional incoherent illumination source. Images taken in fluorescence are presented using this combined conventional and confocal endoscope.

This paper proposes an approach for translating an existing relational database (RDB) schema into relatively newer database (i.e., object-oriented, object-relational and XML) schemas, based on available standards. The approach is superior to existing proposals as it generates three different and equivalent target schemas. The solution takes an RDB as input, enriches its metadata representation ...

A methodology is introduced for translating from methods in an object-oriented database to routines in a relational database. The approach consists of three steps. The first step is to translate method signature to Persistent Stored Modules signature. The second step is to translate method source language to (function/procedure) routine. The process includes Host Language, OSQL’s Qualification,...

Receptor information on structure and function is important base for understanding living systems and diseases, and for designing new drugs. We have developed the Receptor Database (RDB) [1], based on the Internet/World Wide Web (WWW) technology. Further more, the RDB has been extended by combining new items, for instance, TRANSFAC information and the sequence similarity information. A user can...

The lack of semantic richness is one of the biggest drawbacks of the data stored in the classic relational databases (RDB). This paper provides a method that gives a meaning to these data to serve the semantic web. This method allows a direct and automatic conversion of RDB to ontology, it operates on two levels: The first one is based on the principle of reverse engineering; its purpose is to ...

This paper proposes a new query pattern-based relational schema-to-XML schema translation (QP-T) algorithm to resolve implicit referential integrity issue. Various translation methods have been introduced on structural aspects and/or semantic aspects. However, most of conventional methods consider only explicit referential integrities specified by relational schema. It causes several problems s...

This paper is interested in the ontology learning from relational databases (RDB) that exploits already approved semantics about a domain and translates them to application ontology. However, the relational model is recognized to be less expressive and incapable to support some conceptualizations. Without an explicit model of the domain semantics in the relational model, the automatic learning ...

Weakly convex polyhedra which are star-shaped with respect to one of their vertices are infinitesimally rigid. This is a partial answer to the question whether every decomposable weakly convex polyhedron is infinitesimally rigid. The proof uses a recent result of Izmestiev on the geometry of convex caps.

We present a comprehensive series of simulations to study the secular evolution of disk galaxies expected in a LCDM universe. Our simulations are organized in a hierarchy of increasing complexity, ranging from rigid-halo collisionless simulations to fully live simulations with gas and star formation. Our goal is to examine which structural properties of disk galaxies may result from secular evo...
