We study the magnon modes in the presence of a topological soliton in a 2d Heisenberg easy–axis ferromagnet. The problem of magnon scattering on the soliton with arbitrary relation between the soliton radius R and the “magnetic length” ∆0 is investigated for partial modes with different values of the azimuthal quantum numbers m. Truly local modes are shown to be present for all values of m, whe...

We predict phase-transitions in the quantum noise characteristics of systems described by the quantum nonlinear Schrödinger equation, showing them to be related to the solitonic field transition at half the fundamental soliton amplitude. These phase-transitions are robust with respect to Raman noise and scattering losses. We also describe the rich internal quantum noise structure of the soliton...

We show that the chiral soliton model recently introduced by Aglietti et al. can be made integrable by adding an attractive potential with a fixed coefficient. The modified model is equivalent to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger model which does not possess parity and Galilean invariance. We obtain explicit one and two classical soliton solutions and show that in the weak coupling limit, th...

By using the sine-cosine method proposed recently, we give the exact periodic and soliton solutions of the (2 + 1)-dimensional soliton equation in this paper. Many new families of exact traveling wave solutions of the (2 + 1)-dimensional soliton equation are successfully obtained. The computation for the method appears to be easier and faster by general mathematical software.

We show that momentum operators of a topological soliton may not commute among themselves when the soliton is associated with the second cohomology H2 of the target space. The commutation relation is proportional to the winding number, taking a constant value within each topological sector. The noncommutativity makes it impossible to specify the momentum of a topological soliton, and induces a ...

We present the experimental observation of a spatial vector soliton formed by counterpropagation of coherent optical fields. This is to our knowledge the first observation of a vector soliton in which the induced waveguide (potential) is periodic in the propagation direction. This vector soliton induces a waveguide and a thick grating within the waveguide, which can be used as a tunable optical...

We study experimentally the interaction of a soliton with a nonlinear lattice. We observe the formation of a novel type of composite soliton created by strong coupling of mutually incoherent periodic and localized beam components. By imposing an initial transverse momentum on the soliton stripe, we observe the effect of lattice compression and deformation.

We study a soliton transmission line with sliding-frequency filters, and we determine the limits on soliton stability imposed by the value of the free spectral range of Fabry-Perot étalon filters. From these limits, we infer the minimum channel spacing that is possible in a soliton wavelength-division-multiplexing system.

We show that pairwise soliton collisions in N>2 intensity-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations can be reduced to pairwise soliton collisions in two coupled equations. The reduction applies to a wide class of systems, including the N-component Manakov system. This greatly simplifies the analysis of such systems and has important implications for the application of soliton collisions to all-op...
