We identify “spurious” states in meson-baryon scattering, those that appear in QCD for Nc > 3 but decouple for Nc = 3. The key observation is that the relevant flavor SU(3) Clebsch-Gordan coefficients contain factors of 1−3/Nc. We show that this method works even if SU(3) is badly broken. We also observe that resonant scattering poles lying outside naive quark model multiplets are not necessari...

We study a (1+1)-dimensional lambda phi(4) model with a light-cone zero mode and constant external source to describe spontaneous symmetry breaking. In the broken phase, we find degenerate vacua and discuss their stability based on effective-potential analysis. The vacuum triviality is spurious in the broken phase because these states have lower energy than Fock vacuum. Our results are based on...

In this article we present the so-called continuous classifying associative memory, able to store continuous patterns avoiding the problems of spurious states and data dependency. This is a memory model based on our previously developed classifying associative memory, which enables continuous patterns to be stored and recovered. We will also show that the behavior of this continuous classifying...

The need to measure spurious and harmonic signals is not new. However, emerging requirements include more of these measurements and specify demanding test conditions. In aerospace and defense applications, the task may be a search for known or unknown signals across a broad spectrum. In wireless communications, the need is to characterize increasingly complex devices in an ever-increasing numbe...

We describe a neural-like, homogeneous network consisting of coupled bistable elements and we study its abilities of learning, pattern recognition and computation. The technique allows new possibilities of pattern recognition, including the memorization and perfect recall of several memory patterns, without interference from spurious states. When the coupling strength between elements exceeds a...

Photodissociation of CH(3)I(+) in the ground vibronic state generated by mass-analyzed threshold ionization resulted in a superb spectrum for the first excited electronic state (A (2)A(1)) with hardly any spurious peak. Rotational structure in the spectrum could be resolved by using a single mode laser. This structure for one vibronic band, 2(1)3(1)6(1), was analyzed with the assumption of Hund...

In previous works, ratios among four-point scattering amplitudes at the leading order in the high-energy limit were derived for the bosonic open string theory. The derivation was based on Ward identities derived from the decoupling of zero-norm states and was purely algebraic. The only assumption of the derivation was that the momentum polarization can be approximated by the longitudinal polari...

Sweby University of Reading, Whiteknights, Reading RG6 2AX, England ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to study the dynamics of numerics of time discretizations for various systems of first-order autonomous nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with known analytic solutions. The main emphasis is to gain a ...
