This paper attempts to measure the performance of the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) (Fielding et al. 1997) in a multiple access, satellite environment. The HTTP client’s access to the Internet is via a shared satellite uplink channel. The multiple access protocols we have chosen to simulate are Slotted ALOHA (Kleinrock and Lam 1975) and Reservation ALOHA (Crowther et al. 1973). We have co...

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is becoming increasingly attractive because of its high storage capacity and reprogrammability. There is a challenge to be overcome when a reader needs to read a number of tags within the reader’s interrogation zone at the same time. In this paper, we present an anti-collision scheme in a RFID system. The scheme is based on the dynamic framed ALO...

This paper introduces a packet reservation based MAC layer for broadband fixed wireless access communications. The performance of a reservation based MAC scheme is compared with the performances of Pure-ALOHA and Slotted-ALOHA MAC schemes. A simulation using OPNET Modeler is performed to compare the performance of these MAC schemes in terms of channel throughput and average packet delay.

Terrestrial and satellite communication networks often rely on two-hop wireless architectures with an access channel followed by backhaul links. Examples include cloud-radio (C-RAN) low-Earth orbit (LEO) systems. Furthermore, services characterized the coexistence of heterogeneous requirements are emerging as key use cases. This article studies performance critical service (CS) non-CS (NCS) for...

Past studies of Aloha have emphasized system-wide goals such as achieving maximum throughput or minimum delay. In this paper, we use game theory to analyze Aloha from the perspective of a selfish user. We construct an Aloha game and examine the optimal behavior of individual users. We show that the Aloha game has an equilibrium and that an Aloha system in which the users are selfish will be sta...

Many technological enhancements are being developed worldwide to enable the “Internet of Things” (IoT). IoT networks largely rely on distributed access billions devices, but still lagging in terms combined reliability and low latency. To mend that shortcoming, it is paramount adapt existing random methods for setting. In this article, we shed light one modern candidates protocols ...

In this paper, the problem of using uncoordinated multiple access (UMA) to serve a massive amount heterogeneous users is investigated. Leveraging heterogeneity, we propose novel UMA protocol, called iterative collision resolution for slotted ALOHA (IRSA) with non-orthogonal (NOMA), improve conventional IRSA. addition inter-slot successive interference cancellation (SIC) technique used in existi...
