We present a simple filtering procedure for stabilizing the spectral element method (SEM) for the unsteady advection-diffusion and Navier-Stokes equations. A number of example applications are presented, along with basic analysis for the advection-diffusion case. Stabilisation par filtrage pour la méthode des éléments spectraux Résumé. Nous présentons une procédure simple de filtrage pour la st...

In situ labelling and spectroscopic experiments are used to explain the key points in the stabilisation of ruthenium nanoparticles (RuNPs) generated in imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) by decomposition of (eta(4)-1,5-cyclooctadiene)(eta(6)-1,3,5-cyclooctatriene)ruthenium(0), Ru(COD)(COT), under dihydrogen. These are found to be: (1) the presence of hydrides at the RuNP surface and, (2) the...

In this paper we analyse the stabilisation properties of distortionary taxes in a New Keynesian model with overlapping generations of finitely-lived consumers. In this framework, government debt is part of net wealth and this adds a number of interesting channels through which fiscal policy could affect output and inflation. Output volatility, in presence of technology shocks, is not substantia...

Treatment of high-energy fractures of the tibial plateau requires an inordinate degree of surgical effort in order to avoid complications. Fracture reduction can be a challenge to experienced hands and the soft tissue conditions are intolerant of careless dissection. In general, it is an oversimplification to use one technique of stabilisation for such a heterogenous group (even within one clas...

Understanding the dynamics and the stabilisation of flames is important for practical applications and for theoretical research. Here, to investigate the time-evolution of a Bunsen flame in a Poiseuille flow, we extend a G-equation-based kinematic model by accounting for flame stabilisation. The nonlinear G-equation is solved analytically using the methods of characteristics. The solution is th...

This paper analyses the effects of macroeconomic shocks in a monetary union with the aid of a two-country model of the EMU. Our analysis serves two purposes. First, we show how asymmetries between countries might matter in terms of the resulting business cycle fluctuations. More specifically, we do not only allow for country-specific shocks but also for cross-national differences in wage behavi...

This paper deals with the class of singular LPV systems. Sufficient conditions on controllers design are developed in the LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) terms. In order to reduce the conservatism of the developed result using quadratic method, an approach based on polyquadratic Lyapunov functions is proposed. Numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

We describe an image stabilization system that compensates the motion of a moving platform carrying a camera. The dynamic construction of an image mosaic allows the selection of a reference image (normally the first of the sequence) and the registration of every incoming image with the reference frame. A feature-based mosaicking system is proposed in this paper to achieve image stabilization. T...

Motion Stabilisation is the art of removing unwanted observable motion from a dynamic image sequence. Computer Vision techniques serve as a purely software based means of achieving motion stabilisation by applying a sequence of techniques including calculating an original global motion estimate using feature detection, feature tracking and outlier rejection. An update transformation is derived ...
