OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to determine the aminoglycoside modifying enzymes (AMEs) encoded genes, tetracycline resistance genes, and the coa based typing of Staphylococcus aureus isolates in the Southwest of Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS Antimicrobial susceptibility of isolates was carried out by agar disk diffusion methods. Two sets of multiplex PCR mixture were used for dete...

Susceptibilities to fourteen antimicrobial agents important in clinical medicine and agriculture were determined for 752 Escherichia coli isolates of serotypes O26, O103, O111, O128, and O145. Strains of these serotypes may cause urinary tract and enteric infections in humans and have been implicated in infections with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). Approximately 50% of the 137 isolates ...

Bacterial whole-cell biosensors were used to measure the concentration of chlortetracycline (CTC) in the feces of pigs. In this study, the Escherichia coli biosensor used has a detection limit of 0.03 mg/kg CTC in pig feces. The tetracycline concentration was correlated with the appearance and maintenance of fecal coliform bacteria resistant to tetracycline. Initially, large quantities of water...

Persister cells are metabolically quiescent multi-drug tolerant fraction of a genetically sensitive bacterial population and are thought to be responsible for relapse of many persistent infections. Persisters can be formed naturally in the stationary phase culture, and also can be induced by bacteriostatic antibiotics. However, the molecular basis of bacteriostatic antibiotic induced persister ...

Intrinsic resistances to tetracycline, vancomycin and erythromycin are common in Lactobacillus species; however, resistance to streptomycin, clindamycin, gentamicin, oxacillin and lincosamide is also reported in these species. Resistant markers tet(W), tet(M) and erm(B) have been frequently detected in the resistant strains while van(A), lnu(A) and tet(L) have also been found in some strains of...

Polyuridylic acid directed protein synthesis by ribosomes from tetracyclinesensitive and tetracycline-resistant cells of Mycoplasma laidlawii B was found to be sensitive to tetracycline. The ribosomal preparations were somewhat more sensitive to tetracycline than mixtures of ribosomes and cell membrane fragments. No requirement for an exogenous m-RNAcould be demonstrated with the latter prepara...

Irrigation waters may facilitate the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria or genes to humans and animals. Monitoring resistance in irrigated has become common; however, many studies do not incorporate a spatial component into sampling designs. The objective this work was assess spatiotemporal variations tetracycline-resistant E. coli an irrigation pond. Water samples were collected at 10 loc...

pMV120 was reported to carry the tetracycline resistance (Tcr) determinant of class N. We obtained tetracycline-susceptible transconjugants harboring plasmids with restriction enzyme profiles indistinguishable from those of pMV120 isolated from tetracycline-resistant clones. We conclude that pMV120 is a cryptic plasmid and that class N of Tcr determinants does not exist.

Based on a limited number of biochemical properties, a system for biotyping Haemophilus influenzae (M. Kilian, Acta Pathol. Microbiol, Scand. Sect. B82:835-842, 1976) was used to analyze the relationship of biotype to source of infection and antibiotic resistance for 600 clinical strains. The distribution of biotypes from bacteremic patients was significantly different (P less than 0.001) from ...

Background: Ciprofloxacin induces SOS response and mutagenesis by activation of UmuD’2C (DNA polymerase V) DinB IV) in Escherichia coli, leading to antibiotic resistance during therapy. Inactivation DNA V can result the inhibition E. coli. Objectives: The aim this research was investigate effect UmuC inactivation on ciprofloxacin coli mutants. Methods: Ciprofloxacin-resistant mutants were produ...
