This essay suggests that institutional theory has much to offer the SoTL movement by identifying the specific forces that oppose teaching and learning initiatives and offering solutions for nudging cultural change towards the desired outcomes.
Introduction: The majority of literature which studies success in college and the workforce focuses on the importance of cognitive skills. The higher one’s IQ, SAT scores, and high school GPA, the higher the likelihood of success in college and the higher one’s earning potential following college. Given that assumption, if schools commit to improving student outcomes in these cognitive measures...
Sub-Saharan Africa, a diverse, largely impoverished and troubled region, has a pressing need for economic and social development. Given the ever-increasing importance of advanced knowledge and skills in the contemporary world, the education systems in many African countries are a major concern. In particular, it is essential that the capacity of the region’s higher education systems to produce ...
Inclusive education has become more common in schools, and children with developmental disabilities have had greater opportunities to interact, and hopefully establish relationships with their typically developing peers. While the quality of friendships between typically developing children has been examined in detail, relatively little comparable data is available on children with developmenta...
There is considerable concern that students do not develop the writing skills needed for school, occupational, or personal success. A frequent explanation for this is that schools do not do a good job of teaching this complex skill. A recent meta-analysis of trueand quasi-experimental writing intervention research (S. Graham & D. Perin, 2007a) addressed this issue by identifying effective instr...
human intervention in intensification of natural hazards is a concern for researchers. recognizing the response of morphological phenomena to human activities is not traceable in all phenomena. small landforms could capture short-term changes caused by human interventions and react to them. playa are among the areas in which micro-landforms changes can be traced monthly or permanently. playa ar...
In this paper, we investigate the graphs in which all balls are convex and groups acting on them geometrically (which call CB-graphs CB-groups). These have been introduced characterized by Soltan Chepoi (1983) Farber Jamison (1987). CB-groups generalize systolic (alias bridged) weakly groups, play an important role geometric group theory. We present metric local-to-global characterizations of C...
SoTL scholars have written about the importance and utility of teaching from a guiding theoretical framework. In this paper, ecological theory and specifically Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model, is examined as a potential framework for synthesizing SoTL research findings to inform teaching and learning scholarship at the college level. A general overview of the bioecological model of human d...
Epidemiological investigations on Fasciola hepatica fasciolasis were carried out from July 2004 to June 2005 in the Gafsa oases (Tunisia) after the detection of a human case. Three habitats were studied: one in El Gsar and two in Ain Soltan. The prevalence of human infection was 6.6%. The presence of the parasite was detected through serology in 14.3% of cattle, 35% of sheep and 68.4% of goats....
the aim of the present study was to examine the casual relationship of parental bonding with bullying in schools, mediated bypersonality characteristics and student-teacher relationship quality. 200 second-grade male high-school students in ahvaz were selected using multi-stage random sampling method. the data were collected by the parental bonding instrument (pbi), neo-personality inventory-re...
