3D paint systems opened the door to new texturing tools, directly operating on 3D objects. However, although time and effort was devoted to mesh parameterization, UV unwrapping is still known to be a tedious and time-consuming process in Computer Graphics production. We think that this is mainly due to the lack of welladapted segmentation method. To make UV unwrapping easier, we propose a new s...

We present a new set of interface techniques for visualizing and editing animation directly in a single three-dimensional scene. Motion is edited using direct-manipulation tools which satisfy high-level goals such as “reach this point at this time” or “go faster at this moment”. These tools can be applied over an arbitrary temporal range and maintain arbitrary degrees of spatial and temporal co...

X. Zhao and co-workers develop on page 4035 a new biocompatible hydrogel system that is extremely tough and stretchable and can be 3D printed into complex structures, such as the multilayer mesh shown. Cells encapsulated in the tough and printable hydrogel maintain high viability. 3D-printed structures of the tough hydrogel can sustain high mechanical loads and deformations.

Computational scientific simulations have long used parallel computers to increase their performance. Recently graphics cards have been utilised to provide this functionality. GPGPU APIs such as NVidia’s CUDA can be used to harness the power of GPUs for purposes other than computer graphics. GPUs are designed for processing two-dimensional data. In previous work we have presented several two-di...

Today, interactive computer graphics has to deal with data sets of increasing complexity. This trend can be observed in many application areas: In scientific visualisation, the complexity of data sets has grown enormously due to improvements in sensor and simulation technology. In the area of computer aided design (CAD), three-dimensional virtual prototypes of complex projects should be visuali...

This thesis examines interactive computer graphics and biomechanical engineering analysis as components in a computer simulation system for planning plastic surgeries. A new synthesis of plastic surgery planning techniques is proposed based on a task-level analysis of the problem. The medical goals, procedures, and current planning techniques for plastic surgery are reviewed, and from this a li...

Conventional education results in unsatisfactory morphological understanding of acetabular fractures due to lack of three-dimensional (3D) details and tactile feedback of real fractures. Virtual reality (VR) and 3D printing (3DP) techniques are widely applied in teaching. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of physical model (PM), VR and 3DP models in education of morphological...
