A device for rapid mixing of two solutions is presented. As the main mechanism for mixing is diffusional mass transport, the ̄ow has to be split into several laminae which are narrower than the capillary width. Complete mixing is achieved within a few seconds in a ̄ow-through device with a channel system that is 600mm wide at its narrowest spot.

This study describes the biological degradation of TNT by using induced aeration. Three plastic reactors were used. In each reactor 3 kg of soil were used. In order to increase the porosity of the soil, sawdust was added to soil. Textile wastewater treatment plant sludge was also added to soil. TNT at the concentrations of 1000 mg/kg of soil was added thereafter. Rhamnolipid biosurfactant at th...

Submerged macrophytes respond to changes in the nutrient concentrations in their environment. In contrast to diatoms e.g., submerged macrophytes are capable of taking up nutrients from both the sediment pore water and the overlying water. Therefore, macrophytes can provide a more comprehensive assessment of river ecosystems. Two methods using submerged macrophytes to assess and monitor changes ...

Ferrochrome is the major chromium source for stainless steel production, and submerged-arc furnaces (SAF) are most commonly utilised to smelt chromite ores into ferrochrome by using suitable carbonaceous reductants such as coke. Because of the complexity of feed structure and electrical-thermal-chemical interactions, there exist large gradients and wide distributions of temperature, mineralogy ...

INTRODUCTION In pebble bed reactors (PBRs), fuel pebbles containing TRISO particles continuously circulate within the core during operation, while the coolant fluid, either helium gas (in Pebble Bed Gas-cooled Reactors) or molten flibe salt (in Pebble Bed-Advanced High Temperature Reactors), continuously passes through the pebbles to transfer the heat generated by fission reactions out of the c...

Photoredox catalysts have recently been utilized as powerful tools for synthetic chemists to exploit the energy gained by the absorption of low-energy light within the visible spectrum to initiate a variety of organic transformations. The development of methods based on the single electron transfer properties of photoredox catalysts, particularly in the last several years, has represented a par...

Continuous flow reactors show great promise for large-scale synthesis of quantum dots. Here, we discuss results for the synthesis of multi-layered Cd-based hybrid nanocrystals - CdSe/CdS/ZnS, CdS/ZnS, and CdSeS/ZnS - in a continuous flow reactor. The simple reactor design and liquid-phase chemistry obviate the need for preheating or in-line mixing, and the chosen reactor dimensions and operatin...
