Urogenital tuberculosis (TB) is a common late manifestation of an earlier symptomatic or asymptomatic pulmonary TB infection. A latency period ranging from 5 to 40 years between the time of the initial infection and the expression of urogenital TB frequently occurs. As one of the most common sites of involvement of extrapulmonary TB, urogenital TB accounts for 15% to 20% of the infections. We p...
Urogenital sarcoidosis is very rare. To date, only about 60 cases have been described in the literature.1 This corresponds to only 0.2% of all cases of sarcoidosis diagnosed. When the urogenital system is affected, it is usually the epididymis that is involved, followed by the testis and vas deferens.2 Sarcoidosisealso known as Boeck's sarcoid or Schaumann-Besnier diseaseeis a rare chronic diso...
Numerous studies have examined the influence of hormones on infectious diseases and there is now a wealth of data relating to the more specific effect of the sex hormones, oestrogen and progesterone, on urogenital infections. The interaction between these hormones and the immune system is complex and the variation of hormonal effect between species further complicates the true picture as relate...
KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE The most common etiologies of acute scrotum in boys <1 year of age are torsion of the testis or an appendix, urogenital anomalies, and epididymitis. We report an infant with recurrent epididymitis associated with single-system ectopic ureter opening into the seminal vesicle and dysplastic right kidney. Treatment included nephroureterectomy.
The aim of this work was to investigate the FUT2 gene, the secretor status and the expression of CD44 protein in epithelial cells obtain from saliva and urine samples from patients with urogenital tumours. We studied 104 subjects. Half of them had urogenital tumours, while the other half was the healthy control group. We determined the secretor status in saliva with the haemagglutination inhibi...
Chicken CITED3 (cCITED3) is a novel gene, which is expressed in the pre-somitic mesoderm, the mesonephric tubules, the Wolffian ducts and collecting tubules of the developing urogenital system and in the cranial sensory ganglia. Sequence analysis revealed that cCITED3 encodes a protein which contains two conserved domains that have been described for members of the CITED family.
Actinomycosis can involve all parts of the urogenital system. Urachal actinomycosis rarely reported and was mistaken with urachal adenocarcinoma. We report a case of urachal actinomycosis that presented with abdominal pain and underwent laparotomy with the diagnosis of urachal malignancy pathology reviewed the diagnosis of urachal actinomycosis. Patient had no problem in two years follow up.
